I can follow Zillie from the 1850 Nash NC census through 1880 in Wilson NC. It's a mystery who the father of her children was. 1. [LEWIS] County Shropshire, England, 1700's, early 1800's, also "Liverpool"
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bbffrrpp Surnames: Lewis, Troughton, Burrows Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/12170/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. I posted information on the .13. LEWIS siblings growing up in Stoneham, MA, a few days ago. It seems that my posting did not make it to the Board. But, perhaps I posted it on the Board at www.genforum.com instead. But, for this morning, I'd like to mention that my ancestor was Richard LEWIS who was born b~1805 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. I'm told there were several LEWIS couples in Shrewsbury ~1800 who could have been his parents. Someone has just told me there was a Richard LEWIS born 1803 there who had the parents, Thomas and Harriot LEWIS. I checked on-line and it seems that the name, Thomas LEWIS, was very popular in County Shropshire during the 1700's. On the web site www.familysearch.org there were over 20 Thomas LEWIS men mentioned, and that was just for the 1750-1770 time period. Richard LEWIS seems to have moved to County Lancashire ~1825 and settled in Liverpool. No one knows where he married Elizabeth TROUGHTON who was born in Heswall, County Cheshire, England. But, they had 7 children born to them in Liverpool from 1827. They had 2 daughters. I don't know what happened to Ann LEWIS; she was not in the 1851 census. Sarah LEWIS seems to have never married; she was living with a brother at Age 50. A son, Charles, seems to have died young. William and John LEWIS, brothers, lived beside each other in Liverpool; both were clerks. The younger, Henry LEWIS, and his wife seem to have lived long lives in Liverpool; he also a clerk. The youngest William LEWIS also remained in Liverpool with his wife and children. John married Isabella BURROWS who came from another town in County Lancashire, and ended up living beside him. They married and seem to have had only one child, John "Stanley" LEWIS, b1859 Liverpool. John and Isabella both died in the early 1870's and their son was sent to the Blue Coat School. When the Liverpool Sheltering Homes opened in 1873, Stanley's Uncle William took him there. In 1874, as a 14-yr-old, Stanley was "shipped to Canada." In 1881, Stanley and Mary LEWIS made their way to Massachusetts were they had .13. children. They remained in Stoneham, MA, until their deaths in the 1920's. I wish there was a way for me to find out whether Stanley remained in contact with his "many" cousins back in Liverpool, England.
