I've "rescued" an old photograph of Marie OBRIEN which was taken at the Barton Studio in Alexandria, South Dakota. The photograph is dated 1900 with Marie just an infant at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has also written "daughter of Mr. & Mrs. OBRIEN" and "Mrs. O B was formerly Miss Maud WEST" and "To Miss Mary MCMILLAN, now Mrs. M. E. C. BURROUGHS". Based on limited research and thanks to the assistance of an O'BRIEN Family Researcher we've gathered the following information regarding Marie and her family: Marie Dolores O'BRIEN born 21 Nov 1899 in Alexandria, SD to parents Henry Edward O'BRIEN (b. MN) and Maud WEST (b. MN). Marie had three siblings, Francis Edward b. 1901; Irene b. 1908; and Leona b. 1916, all in Hanson Co. SD. The family later moved to Kimball, SD. Brother Francis married Evelyn LEWIS, Irene married Arthur GASPAR in 1936 in Mitchell, SD, and Leona married J. P. HASSLINGER in 1937 in Mitchell, SD. Marie married John Bernard PLUT on 25 May 1926 in Kimball, SD and died in Everett, WA on 28 Nov 1991. Census records provide the following: 1900 census of Wayne Township, SD: Edward OBRIEN, age 30, born Oct 1869, married 1 year, born MN, parents born Ireland, a Livery Man Maud OBRIEN, wife, age 25, born Oct 1874, married 1 year, 1 child/1 living, born MI, parents born NY Marie OBRIEN, dau, age 6 months, born Nov 1899, born SD + 2 servants I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this precious old treasure can be returned to the care of this family. If you are a member of the family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Dear Lewis list members: A fantastic DNA testing opportuniy has become available. 23andMe tests for both health and ethnic genes. The test can be taken by both males and females and will show kinship regardless of the sex of the participants. It is an autosomal test. The company is not affiliated with Family Tree DNA and you must submit a sample. For a very limited time you can get the test for a fraction of its cost. The info is here: http://the-lost-colony.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-23andme-autosomal-test-opportunity.html
This was posted on the powys list, and I have found out heaps of info on my Welsh LEWIS family. "For the last couple of days it has been possible to access wills on line that were previously accessible by visiting the National Library of Wales. Not sure if this is the complete collection but I found several of mine available. If you go to www.llgc.org.uk and select family history, then search archival databases scroll down the page and select probate this leads you to a search page." Regards, Garth Walter
Hi Judy, I have some family ties from the late 1800s (maybe later, I don't know) in Manhattan, Riley Co., Kansas. None of your names sound familiar, but it seems likely that we may have cousins or something going on. William and Sarah Jane Brubaker moved to KS in 1871, from Ohio, with 6 of their 7 sons: William Henry, Jeremiah, Jonathan, George Washington, John Wesley and Harvey. The oldest son, Jacob, stayed in Ohio. I have spouses names, but very few children's names. Please email me at sandyburnham@woh.rr.com. She may still be living possible with her child. Check phone records. There must be a very good reason she cut the ties with her child's family. I shared some info with a cousin who without my permission posted my personal information online. He included my mother's maiden name [I changed my banking records], my married name and well as how many children I have, my daughter's married name and my grandchildrens names. He refuses to remove it from the Internet. This I feel is very intrusive and mean spirited. He then ask me to provide him with corrections to his incorrect information. Not in this lifetime. I really don't understand why individuals what to put info online regarding someone who recently passed. What is the purpose? One of my uncles married a lady from Somerville, MA, in the late 1940's. She was Virginia WHITE, I believe. They had a child and then "separated" shortly after that. My uncle became estranged from the family and we never saw him again. We saw Virginia and her child until the 1960's, and then never again. As far as I know, Virginia never remarried, and I don't know how long she lived. I've checked with the Somerville City Clerk and they don't have a death record for her. I'm hoping to find out when she passed, so I could try to locate my cousin. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (I don't want to put the names of living people on-line.)
