Filed by his wife Elizabeth with depositions by his only surviving daughter Sarah and Elizabeth. Sarah married Bronson Lewis and they were my great grand parents, by their child (named Jesse Lewis.) If you would like copies of these records let me know. Jesse Wiggins is described as being 6' 2" tall with blue eyes, black hair and light complexion. There is a lot of information in these records, though difficult to read, does not give the names of Jesse's parents but I'm still thrilled to have them. They are from the National Archives. I have about ten pages that you would need to have, includes Jesse, his wives and daughter Sarah and her husband Bronson L. Lewis. Miles could possibly be a relative, but I haven't come across him yet. I think Charles' father was a John. The only children listed in Charles' will are children of Martha and Tucker Woodson. John could very well have been a relative. The Hudson births and deaths that I just found in some books that I have are all from the late 1850's and up. There are several births and deaths for both Hudson children and Hudson slaves. Miles is listed several times as either father or owner. Let me know if you want specifics. Hudson, born 1819 in Barren County, Ky. I think he could be connected to Charles Hudson and Jane Lewis, but have not found a link. The 1850 Census of Barren County says he was born in VA, and the information in the 1880 Census indicates that his mother or possibly stepmother was Mary (aka Polly) Hudson. In 1880, Miles had assumed responsibility for a "nephew", Johnnie, who was the son of John, one of the children living with "Polly" in 1850. Polly Hudson appears in the 1840 Census as a head of household. There are also listings for James Hudson, James G. Hudson, John Hudson, John Hudson, Sr. and a Henry Hudson. The 1830 Census had "John Hudson (2)". The 1820 Census had Jane Hudson and a John Hudson listed. The 1810 Census had Charles Hudson. I have been trying to find a list of the children of Charles and Jane Lewis Hudson to see if there were sons named John, James, etc. Don Winn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am excited to read this post about this Lewis line from Virginia/SC. I am the 11th great grandson of Edmond Lewes of Lynn, Massachusetts. My line descends through Zephaniah (Zerah) Lewis of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, to Jonathan, to Thomas Jefferson Lewis of Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio (b. 1810). Thomas married Priscilla Rude, daughter of Mary Polly Laughlin (or Loffland). The given names Laughlin, Dorman and Branson run strong in my family in descendants of Thomas and Priscilla Lewis. I am a participant in the Lewis Surname DNA Project (Line 148, Group 43, 143104). Through my DNA profile I am in contact with a group of descendants of Samuel Lewis in Virgina, SC and Georgia, with brothers Azariah, Benjamin, Isaac and Joseph. Many of us have identical DNA profiles at 24 loci. It appears there is a connection between my line and yours, probably through a Samuel from New Jersey who moved to the Virginia area. I would encourage any direct lineal male Lewis descendant to participate in the Lewis Surname DNA project http://lewissurnamednaproject.com/ to help establish this connection. Please contact me directly with any response to this post. Here is what I have on the children of Samuel and Plotemia: a) Elizabeth "Eliza" (Lewis) Branson (had five children, per Samuel Lewis' 1822-1823 will) b) Nancy (Lewis) Bullington...she had been married previously to a John Harvey, with whom she had five children, per Samuel Lewis' 1822-1823 will) c) John (I suspect that he was the John Lewis who married Sarah Hardy, a daughter of George Hardy) d) Joseph (not sure what happened to him...did he father any children)? e) Samuel, Junior (died in Rutherford Co., TN) f) Jane g) Charles (died by 1808; apparently married Mary Ann High; children included Pleasant Lewis, Larkin Lewis, Jeremiah Lewis and Anne Lewis, per an 1808 Pittsylvania deed) h) Catherine i) William (may have married Mary Clark; moved to Parke City, IN). It also appears that the above John and Sarah (Hardy) Lewis had the younger John Lewis who married Mary "Polly" Hardy on 26 Apr 1803. I also suspect that John and Sarah (Hardy) Lewis had the Charles Lewis who married Martha "Patsy" Nance....and PERHAPS also the George Lewis who married a Miss King (and who had a son named Royal King Lewis). Both this second/younger Charles Lewis, as well as this George Lewis, had a son or grandson with the given name of "Vincent," and there was a man named Vincent Hardy in the Hardy family. The above younger Charles Lewis (born about 1790, per the 1850 census...he moved to Parke City, IN by 1860) who married Patsy, as well as the above George Lewis (born about 1772, per the 1850 census; died after 1860), appeared on the 1850 Pittsylvania Co., VA census. The "family history" is that Samuel Lewis had three brothers, and they were named Azariah, Benjamin and Isaac. Two of these brothers moved to SC, but Samuel (and, presumably, one of the brothers) remained in VA. I do not know at this time which brother of Samuel remained in VA, nor do I know if that brother married and/or fathered any children. Comments/questions? Has any male Lewis from this overall Lewis family joined the Lewis DNA testing project? My wife is a Lewis, and she is apparently out of the line of the above John Lewis who married Sarah Hardy, via their son John Lewis who married Mary "Polly" Hardy (and via their son William Lewis who married Sarah Owen...married 3 Nov 1845 in Halifax Co., VA).
