The pictures were members of the Labar, Wilson and Lewis families. I was able to correctly identify the folks in this Labar family portrait (attached) through some sleuthing and census records. Amy's maiden name was Redfield, and in addition to Harry pictured with them, they also had children named Susan (b.1888), Wilson (b. 1891), Ralph (b. 1894), Kinsey (b.1898) and George (b.1900). Pictures of Harry, Susan and Wilson were also among the collection. Given that their son Wilson's name was Wilson Redfield Labar, I was curious as to how this family may have been connected to the Wilson family, but I haven't been able to determine that yet. I also love old photos, and collect them from Hackettstown photographers specifically, or those with last names that could possibly be linked to the town's ancestral families. The photo of "Jennie" is also that of a child. She looks to be about 3 or 4 years old, There is no photographer logo or information. Considering what you found on the census, if this is also a Townley photo, she could very well be James and George's sister. I wonder what Elizabeth's maiden name might have been, and if she was perhaps a Labar or Wilson. Always interesting! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I can only go as far back as my greatgrandfather Frederick Augustus Lewis 1855-1893 born Aldershot Surrey or Plumstead Essex according to censuses. His father according to his marriage certificate in 1880 to a Sarah Chamberlain of Harrow Middlesex states fathers name also Frederick Lewis. At present I can't go back any further. Does anybody else have a story similar to this in their family or know more about the siblings or parents of John Lewis b.1836 who opened a drapers shop in Oxford street London. I did not find any other Susan or Susie that was born in that time frame who was living in Clay co. I went thru all the Lewis families and this is the only one I came up with. You will probably have to find a death record for her if you dont have one already and see if it listed on there who her parents are. I judged it to have been taken around the 1890s because of the age of the boys and the clothes they are wearing, James being the older of the two and George the younger. You did not state wether or not Jennie was a child in the other photo but I am hoping that what I found she is. Townley Photographers was owned by Andrew Townley, and from what I found he was in NJ around the 1880s/1900 and had a studio on the 3rd floor of one of their main buildings there in Newton, Sussex co. NJ. On the 1900 census for Newton, Sussex co. NJ I found this John Lewis b Oct 1835 NJ both parents born in NJ Elizabeth b Apr 1834 NJ both parents born in NJ James Lewis b. Mar 1881 NJ George b. Aug 1882 NJ Jennie b sept 1887 NJ. in 1910 James and Jennie are still living with their parents and George is gone from the home, either having moved on are died. However, I did find a George living in another county that was the same age, as a Salesman in a GroceryStore. Hope this is the right family. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. I don't have her name, or her new husband's name, but it sounds like this may be a match to what you described. I may have also found some relevant posts on the Lewis message board over on GenForum, but I don't recall for sure (and maybe even on the Pittsylvania and/or Halifax message boards at RootsWeb and/or GenForum). When I start research on a new surname, I usually check four places first: 1) the surname message board on RootsWeb, 2) the surname message board on GenForum, 3) the relevant county on RootsWeb and 4) the relevant county on GenForum. One post on this overall thread stated that the Charles Lewis who marred Mary Ann High might have been a son of Samuel.....but others seem certain that the Charles who married Mary Ann High was a son of the APPARENTLY unrelated Charles Lewis who died in 1802. It would be nice if someone who believes that he is out of Samuel Lewis would take the DNA test to see if he matches any existing male Lewis donors. As stated above, it now APPEARS to me that the Charles Lewis who married a Miss Nance and who left VA was probably out of Samuel and Plotemia....but not the Charles Lewis who married Mary Ann High and who died about 1808. Also, there was yet another Charles Lewis who wrote his will in 1802, and whose will was then probated in 1805. I would not be too surprised if he was not related to the other two Lewis families mentioned above.....but who knows? Best of luck with your research on Samuel Lewis. Please post whatever you find on him here. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Debbie I sapped your letter off the map when I was answering your question about your William Lewis born 1855. I am working on Jordan Lewis, son of William Lewis born 1732. They came to Bulloch from Duplin Co. NC and lived in Bulloch before moving to ALa. I don't know all of the offspring but I can tell you they are Y-DNA G2a Haplogroup bloodtype and that is rare in the Lewis families as most are R1b1 or something else. JD Lewis has a good Lewis web site you might find your William there. He wrote a book about 5 Lewis families called, "My Neck of the Woods" Get his web site from Google. Blessings Doris M. Lewis
