My mother's birth certificate said Llewellyn until my grandfather scratched it out and wrote in Lewelling, saying she wasn't going to be known as one of "those dam*ed Llewellyns. My 5th great grandfather was known as Lewelling, but his grandson as Lewallen. Flash
