Eddy (the w being Welch, my great great great grandfather was H.w. eddy uncle .......the letter stated he was going to Portland because his sister had died.....the second when I was unpacking a letter from H.W. Eddy showed up and again writen to "my uncle, P.T.Welch" in 1864 talking about mining and mills and going to Salem involved with the politics...........so I dived in.......H.W. at the age of 30 married Jane Lewelling, daughter of a Iowa orchardist...who brought the first fruit trees to Oregon 1845, named and grew the Bing cherry .........by marriage dates the woman Jane was a child 13!!!! they had several children, one Henderson Horacito Eddy............this was the miner in Leadville I gather and the one that my grandfather in 1900 came to visit (there was a train special from chicage for one buck you could go to california....they spent a year traveling before returning to Chicag! e.........long story short his father H.W.Eddy returned to the family's origin Watertown n.y. after Jane died in 1871 or so........my excitement was squashed that no relatives stayed in Portland.........You mentioned Lewelling remarried..now I see why Jane married in 1853 at the age of 13 maybe with a new stepmother it was a good thing............but the Eddy in the Henderson remarry is throwing me for a loop.....where did she come from ?
