This came from a list that I am on.... Hope it helps someone.... For members with New England ancestors, here is an opportunity to search the 1847 - 1994 issues of the New England Historical and Genealogical Register for the holiday weekend, Thursday through Sunday, without charge. This is one of the many databases that can be accessed by members but for this limited time, it can be searched by anyone. Here is part of the announcement from NEHGS. NEHGS is pleased to offer free access to its New England Historical and Genealogical Register database on NewEnglandAncestors.org over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Normally only available to NEHGS members, the Register database will be accessible to everyone from Thursday, November 25 through Sunday, November 28, 2004. We encourage all NEHGS members to spread the word about this offering, and we hope that those of you who are not members find a veritable feast of ancestors in the Register database! Published quarterly since 1847, The New England Historical and Genealogical Register is the flagship journal of American genealogy and the oldest journal in the field. The online database includes issues from 1847 to 1994. Starting Wednesday, there will be link on the www.NewEnglandAncestors.org home page that will take you directly to the NEHGR database and starting Thursday, the database will be 'open'. The search function for the Register is based on names. You can enter First Name and Last Name and can also use Advanced Search features that include 'begins with" and wildcards and proximity searches. There is no provision for searching on places or localities. "Search Tips" gives good examples of what the returns might be for various search words so it would be good to view these. Since the database pages are scanned images of the individual pages of the Record, your browser's 'find on page' feature cannot be used so you will have to scroll the page to find your search words.
