    1. [LESSER] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team We are presently setting up email groups at https://groups.io/. If there is interest in migrating this list to groups.io please respond to this message to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [LESSER] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

Author: lindaheinlein Surnames: Lesser Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lesser/160.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Deb, I'm not sure if you and Courtney connected or not, it doesn't look like it. My husband and Courtney's father are cousins. We've been trying to research the Lesser line for some time now. We know that Michael married a Lavinia Ferris in 1895 and they had a son, Henry Lesser (sometimes called Harry). Henry is my husband's Grandfather. Henry was left at the St. John's Home for Boys in December 1900, we have not been able to locate Michael beyond that time period. My search started out trying to find information for my mother-in-law as to why her father was left at the home. I wrote to the home and they sent me the information from Henry's intake file, it stated that the mother brought Henry to the home when her husband abandoned the family, leaving them with no means of support. The paperwork listed Michael as a barber, which ended up being a huge hit for us, as Morris (Moses, Maurice) was also a barber, this is how we were able to connect the family. Also, Courtney fo! und their marriage license and it listed Michael's parents names (no maiden name for the mom though, we are still working on that one, or at least I am - I haven't connected with Courtney on the genealogy in some time now). You can reach me via email at [email protected] Chat soon, Linda Heinlein Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The Lesser's you refer to are my grandparents, Ida and Philip, who have both since passed on many years ago. My mother is Rosalie (married to Ted Kallner) and my uncle is Joseph (Rosalie's older brother). As he (Dr. Joseph Lesser, M.D.) has been estranged from the family for many years, I am not sure of his whereabouts. The last I knew, he lived in the Atlanta, GA. area for many years. I am not even sure if he is even still alive as he is not a topic of conversation with my mother and, if still alive, must be close to 85 years old. I hope this helps you in your (re)search. I live in NYC. I can be reached by e - mail at [email protected] Let me know if I can be of any further help. Good luck. Bernard H. "Burry" Kallner, NYC. We are now trying to build up our family tree so it would be interesting to exchange the information and, of course, I can help you with research here in Latvia. I'm sorry if this relevance is coincidence! Best regards, Andis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My grandfather had a brother who supposedly owned a candy store in Brooklyn. I have never found any of his relatives. He had a brother named Stanley who totally vanished and I have no idea where he disappeared to. There was a sister too, but I don't even know her first name. They both visited another brother who was in a mental institution in New York City and who later died. Another brother also died. Neither of the two who died married. Stanley did but I don't know if he had children. The name was Lesser changed from Lissauer and they were from Hungary/Slovakia. My grandfather was Morris and he was married twice, once to Mary Braun and the 2nd to my grandmother, Fannie Jonap. Mary Braun never left Hungary. I don't know what happened to her beyond the fact that she had approximately 12 sons with my grandfather. My grandmother had 5 sons. My great-grandfather was Herman Lissauer aka Lesser married to Sara Bogar aka Catherine Zeiger. They died here and are buried in Brooklyn, NY.
