    1. [LESHER] Forrest Lesher
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Lesher, Lusher, Lasher, Lisher, Kaufmann, Coffman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TGw.2ACEB/308.1.1 Message Board Post: The name is familiar, but I cannot find the connection in my notes at this time. But I do have some knowledge of the Lesher (Lusher, Lisher) family in West Virginia. There may be more than one line. A Jacob Lesher/Lusher married a Mary Ann Coffman/Kaufmann in Frederick Co., Maryland and appears to have come to Randolph Co., Va (now WV) in the first decade of the 1800s, probably at the time George Kaufman/Coffman and some others made the same relocation.. George & Mary Ann may have been siblings. Jacob had only two sons as far as I know, the first and older was George and is said to have moved to Greenbriar Co., VA (now WV) before 1820. There are later census records of a George Lusher in Greenbriar or counties formed from Greenbriar. Henry Lesher, a younger brother of George, and perhaps the youngest child of the family left Barbour Co. after the death of his father. Henry seems to have lived for a while in Calhoun or an adjacent county. I suggest you explore these two areas. One investigator of this family found some difficulties when visiting the area and inquiring about the Lesher or Lushers. Apparently they were not too popular in their area. Jacob did have several daughters and many of them remained near the homestead around the location of Mt. Morris church and in adjacent Taylor Co., Va (now WV). Jacob's wife was living in 1850 with a family that was recorded adjacent to three of her married daughters. No certain connection to the family with which she lived has been demonstrated yet. Best of luck with your search. All of this family appears to be on a branch of my family tree. Mary Ann's father appears to have died in 1793, his estate was under dispute in 1810-1813 at a time when her youngest half-brother was under an apprenticeship to a hat maker to which he had been bound by his widowed mother. At least one other brother was bound out to learn a trade soon after the father's death.
