    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Nose, Lesher, Coffman, Beaver, McCartney Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TGw.2ACEB/126.1 Message Board Post: Margaret was a daughter of Jacob Lesher & Mary Ann (or Anna Marie perhaps) Coffman. Mary Ann probably never wrote her name as Coffman, but rather as Kaufmann although the spelling has been an item of contention in the family. (Those who went to (now) WV, to the Shenandoah Valley and probably to KY all seem to have preferred Coffman.) I have recently been given a marriage date for Jacob & Mary Ann in 1791 in Maryland. What is your source for the birth in PA? She had two sisters that married McCartney and lived near Michael Nose in Taylor Co., VA. There was also a sister that married a Beaver and lived in Barbour Co., VA. Mary Ann was living with a neighbor of the Noses and McCartneys in 1850, Taylor Co., VA. There is a claim for a brother Henry Lesher who married a Bennett and went to Roane Co., VA and also for a George Lesther "that went to Greenbrier Co. and was never heard of again." There was also a late marriage of a sister to Isaac B. Marsh. There was a sister who married a Smith, I believe. I believe there was a marriage of a sibling to a Walter(s), child of Simon Walter. Please take this with caution as I'm writing from memory, some over the last eight years and some from a half century ago. All the places given as VA changed to WV when the Civil War arrived.

Do you know if this was her birth name (maiden name)? Although it is very close to Pauling, it is phonetically close to Polan, Poland, Poling, Polen, Pollin, etc. which are variants of a very large family that appears to have dispersed from New York (Long Island). Some to NJ and remained. Many to Maryland (where few stayed). Several before 1780 to Loudoun Co., VA. Later to Hampshire, Randolph, Harrison and neighboring counties of WV and many to Ohio. Any more information about her that may be available would be appreciated.

Jacob Lesher appeared in Randolph Co., VA (WV) early in the 1800s. 4. George Coffman who may have been a slightly older brother of Mary Ann (Coffman) Lesher apparently had relocated from Frederick, MD to Randolph Co., VA in about 1803. (Older children in Lutheran church records at Frederick and younger children gave birth place as Virginia.)

    1. Lesher Newsletter
    2. Dear friends, somehow I managed to electronically trash my UFT files for my Lesher background and will be starting a bit from scratch. I do have an ample supply of paper records at least. As I start this process anew, I'll see if I can't create a decent URL where we can post our Lesher heritage in a more accessible format for all of us. In the meantime, if anyone has copies of the Lesher Newsletter which existed for a period of time (last published around 10 years ago), I would appreciate receiving either copies or information where I might find them. Thanks and very best to all. Roy Lesher, Lesher List Administrator [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])

I am searching for information concerning the Lesher family in Montgomery County Leshers. The Family starting with Johannes Lescher and Anna Catharina Wolfhart. One of their children is Benjamin Lesher. Looking for sources as well. It has been hard to find information before 1850 since you can't make parent/child connections on census reports. Also, MOntgomery Cty. does not have many resources available on-line. Any information would be great!! Thank you.
