The following was provided by my good friend Lani McAniff of the Philadelphia Rootsweb territory. "The Genealogical Society of PA (GSP) recently put online a surname index to their "manuscripts" and Bible records. The above surname (Emerick), in addition to the spelling of EMERICH, appears therein. Should you wish to inquire (free) by e-mail whether Elizabeth (wife of John LESHER) and/or her ancestors are mentioned in those records, the procedure for doing so is outlined on http://www.libertynet.org/gspa/SurnamesIndex.htm" Very best, Roy Lesher, LESHER list administrator. Surnames: Lesher Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TGw.2ACEB/152.160.222 Message Board Post: If I may help, there's a mis-read or typo on your tree of the date of Johannas' crossing, it was 1734, 3's and 8's being what they are. After his father died in Wittgestein, Hesse, Germany, Johannas aged 15, his widowed mother, two brothers and a sister sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "Hope" (Daniel Reid, Master) landing in Philadelphia on September 23, 1734. He is shown on the passenger list as Joanis Lesher age 15 while his brother Sabastian is listed as Bostian age 11. His parents were Mennonites, Palatines. Spelling wasn't great in those days either. They were part of the Zinzendorf pilgrimage. Johannis married Maria Cathrine Loesch of Tulpehocken on 16 April 1759, after spending two years at the Wachovia settlement in North Carolina as part of his Moravian/Zinzendorf duties. It was very common in those times to share the first name with several son's so those middle names were used as the calling name. (So you see George Foremen has got nothing on us!!!) Johannas had two John sons. The first was John "Johann", the second being John "Georg" (born 6 April 1768). Georg had three John's. John, John "George"(born 20 October 1792), and John "Michael". George said enough, and had only one son John B.(born 12 August 1833). The John you speak of may have been Georg's first son. I hope so because the is a lead I've been looking for. Part of my research includes a hand drawn family tree done in a sort of hub and spoke fashion. Geoge's first son John does not show wife and children. This tree I have was given to me by my Great Uncle and was probably done circa yours. I'd be very interested in sharing notes with you and maybe we can sort out these Johns. Also I have long thought that Johannas' older brothers crossed before their father died and is the link to the famous Col. Lesher. Seems we are connected. Let's see.

The Treaty of Westphalia (1634) forced many to flee France due to religious intolerance. My Lesher family left the Alsaise-Lorraine region for Switzerland then later to Germany before leaving Rotterdam for Philadelphia in1734. They made the crossing as part of Count Zinzendorf's pilgrims. Hope this helps.

Jacob Ziegler was married to Catharina Lasure. Their first child was Rev. Henry Ziegler who married Elizabeth App. This is from the App family bible. Elizabeth's younger brother Hiram would marry Caroline Hall. Their fourth child Mary Ellen App, my GGrandmother, married Joeseph G. Lesher, publisher of The Selinsgrove Times(1886-1910). My mother is named for Mary Ellen App. This branch of Lesher's entered Philadelphia 1734 on the ship "Hope." There are other Lesher's who came earlier, some who followed later. Hope this helps.

My lineage is from George's daughter Hariett who married Henry Martin Luther Harter. I had given up looking for him in Pennsylvania and was now looking in New York.
