May I just say a heart-felt thank you for the latest topic to grab the imagination of Listers.   The List has been very quiet for quite a few months now.   Either there are fewer budding genealogists around, or have we all subscribed to Ancestry & can now find 'most' data for ourselves, especially now that Ancestry have the 1911 Census free to subscribers.     Long may this topic be allowed to continue.   I am sure that reminiscing like this is very good for us all to do from time to time.   Happy memories. I spoke to an old Leicester friend the other day expressing a wish to return to visit the City, but she warned me that I would hardly recognise the place any more & it might be too sad to visit my old haunts.   Oh well, I suppose we must bow to 'progress'....................
