Hi Sue, Welcome to the list, where we have a number of knowledgeable and helpful members. Checking my old ordnance survey map, the only church in Stapleford is (as I suspected) in the grounds of Stapleford Hall and has been closed some years. It is not an ancient church, looks more 1700s. The next nearest church would be Wyfordby, about a mile distant. Deposited registers should be at the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, tel. 0116 2571080, and you should find an email address if you look at their website. The library in Melton Mowbray has a lot of registers on micro fiche for their borough, which should include these two places, so it depends on which is the most convenient for you. If Robert Sr was a tenant farmer, the chances are he married a girl from a nearby village. If he was a farm labourer, and father's occupations were often 'improved' on marriage registers, then he could have come from any of the surrounding villages or even further afield. I live in the area and have come across PAGET (or PADGET) as a local name. Have you looked at the 1841 census to see where this name is located? That would be my first move. Stapleford is still a tiny place and is pronounced locally as St-apple-ford. Hope that helps, Lesley -----Original Message----- From: Susan Howes Sent: Thursday, August 8, 2013 12:33 PM To: LEICESTERSHIRE-PLUS@rootsweb.com Subject: [LEI] PAGET- Stapleford Hello, I am new to the list. I am helping someone research her tree. I have got as far as Robert PAGET, born c. 1812. He was baptised in Stapleford on 17th June 1812. His father was also Robert, a farmer according to Robert Junior's marriage cert. I have had no luck in tracing Robert Snr's marriage to Ann. Or anything else about him. I should be very grateful in anyone can point me in the right direction. Many thanks, Sue
