I've just been driving home and listening to a programme on BBC Radio 4 in their "Open Country" series about the re-opening of The Mountsorell Granite Railway. This short line connected the granite quarry in Mountsorrel with The Great Central Railway at Swithland and was closed some 40+ years ago when the main line ceased to exist. It has been restored, and continues to be restored, by local volunteers with a minimum of money and a maximum of effort. It made fascinating listening and I'm sure will appeal to all lovers of local history, not just railway geeks. It will be available on the "Listen Again" page of BBC Radio 4 fairly soon - it only finished at 15.30 GMT. Here is a link to the relevant website, but it may be later this afternoon before it is on-line. Brian Binns http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/bbc_radio_four/20131031
