This has > been provoked by a relative who works in China and has married a Chinese An overseas marriage is only registered in England if the marriage was notified to the British authorities at the time in the country where the marriage took place or took place at the British Embassy. The couple would have to go to the government department which would have the marriage registration if it wasn't registered with the British authorities. An English translation would also be needed if it wasn't already in English. An historical marriage can be found in the Overseas Marriages on FMP (and Ancestry?) but only if the marriage was registered with the British authorities at the time otherwise it would be the government department in the country where it took, if known. -- Connie http://oursalmons.wordpress.com/
