Hello Berry It will give me something to do until I start on my next WW1 book! He is actually buried in Iraq - see below- http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=627556 His number was M2/136133 which points to Motor in Army Service Corps. It was the ASC from 1889 but got its Royal title in 1918. The ref has - Braddock, Richard, Pte, M2/136133, R.A.S.C., 1916 Volume I1, page 82. Soldiers died in the great war has - Braddock, Richard, born Bloomsbury, London, enlisted london, Abode - Grays Inns Road, London, M2/136133, Private, died Persian Gulf, 18 August 1916. So he possibly died of illness. Hope that helps. Steve Berry Wraight <berry.wraight@googlemail.com> wrote: Hi Steve What a brave man you are. I do hope you do not get too flooded, If you do, I am - of course - happy to wait. I have little information on my man [my great uncle] other than what is on his enlistment paper, which I obtained from the Ancestry British Army WW1 service records. What I do know is as follows His name is Richard Braddock born 1892 Bloomsbury London. Family history states he died in France in 1916 but I have found nothing for that yet. His enlistment no is 136133 which states that he enlisted on 1/11/1915 It also mentions the Army Service Corp motor division, but not clear whether that is where he would be allocated so could be a complete red herring. If you find anything on his that would be brilliant. Many thanks Berry On 30/12/2007, Steve <morse.steve@btinternet.com> wrote: Hello Each I have the Overseas BMD references for The First World War. Example - year Volume Page Farby, George, Pte, 23711, N & D R 1916 I.44 247 (Notts and Derby Regiment) Whilst the death certificate does not usually give a great deal of information, I have found them useful on occasions. For example, one of my men was listed on the CWGC as being killed on 22/1/1916 and buried in France. I knew that he was in Egypt at the time. The death certificate gave me the following info - The Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment in the War of 1914-1921. number- 26774, rank Private 9th Bn, name Robinson Fred, age 24, birthplace England, date of death 22/11/1916, Place of death France, Killed in action. With the above proof, i could get the CWGC to amend their records. Officially for War Deaths the period was from 1914 to 1921. Obviously the more info you have, the more chance of getting the right man - Looking for a Fred Smith without any other info may lead to a large list!
