Whilst on the subject of overseas deaths, can anyone help with this problem? My uncle ARTHUR LEEDHAM joined the Rifle Brigade at the beginning of WW1 and was a sergeant in 1919. In 1919 he was posted to Basra in the Persian Gulf. At that time he was still a sergeant in the Rifle Brigade. Arthur married Alice Maud Darling in 1917 and she joined him in Basra probably in 1920. I know she died there not that long after arriving but I've been unable to locate any record of her death. There is a record of overseas deaths at the FRC covering deaths posted by the embassies but I could not find her listed. Has anyone any ideas where her death might be recorded? As a matter of interest, the army was not too successful in quelling the troublesome Arabs and the newly formed RAF was found to be was found to be much more competent means of keeping an eye on them. Arthur transferred to the RAF, although I'm not sure when, and retired after WW2 as a Flt.Lt. Tony.
