I have discovered on Ancestry.com UK that my ancestor John Brown married Dorothy Gowsey in 1617. Both were of Lawnde Abbey. The marriage was recorded in Book 1 fo. 144. Question: does Lawnde Abbey still exist? Is it a town or perhaps a church? Does Book #1 still exist? Where would it be? Are there research facilities in the area where I could find out more about the Brown and Gowsey families? Any help or ideas you can give me are greatly appreciated. Google Maps add extra streets, or other features that don't in fact exist. This was highlighted in a TV programme by Nicholas Crane - the guy who presents MapMan and Coast. I lived and worked in this area and I can confirm that there is no such place as Newtown LIMFORD. The map I generated had the name by a water feature, which is known as Groby (pronounced Grooby) Pool. -----Original Message----- From: leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Berry Wraight Sent: 03 December 2007 21:25 To: Emma Faulkner Cc: Leicestershire plus Subject: Re: [LEI] Newtown Linford/Newtown Limford Indeed I did, I had not realised that you were talking about the village being shown in the wrong place.
