Hi Sue Thanks for the update notice. A month or so ago I published BROADHURST OF ASHBY DE LA ZOUCH, a family history that I have been working on for years. You provided some information along the way that was very helpful, including local information about LEI and ADLZ. Here is a link to the info: http://www.lulu.com/content/1225916 After the book came out I wrote to the LRFHS, to someone listed on their website, to offer a copy of the book and I never heard from anybody. I wonder if they had old email addresses on their site. Anyway I wrote to the Pres and Sec [as listed on the site) today to offer to provide an electronic PDF copy of the book if they had online resources capability, or a hard copy sent across the ocean if they prefer. However it occurred to me that I did not consider whether there was a resource library closer, perhaps the Ashby Museum if they deal with family history resources. Or...? If you or others on the list have any ideas on where to archive this resource for posterity I would be grateful for the suggestion. Hi Art, I suggest you contact the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland: <http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/community/museums/record_office.htm> E-mail: recordoffice@leics.gov.uk Since your book relates to Leicestershire, and especially to a specific area, I would think they would gratefully accept it and add it to the catalogue index for Ashby de la Zouch. The big advantage of the Record Office is that they have vaults for storing documents safely - something no local library in Leicestershire, or the Family History Society, can do. Depositing a hard copy would mean that it's likely to be be available for many years, or even centuries, in the future. Whether an electronic .pdf file on one of today's electronic media will survive in the same way is perhaps a little more questionable ;-) Just think - if you found a record that someone had produced, say, 30 years ago and stored in an electronic form of the day, what would you do with it ? Anyone remember 8 inch floppy disks ? If you decide to go down this path & the Record Office accept it, please let the List know. I would then be interested to see whether they catalogue it in a way that both family and local historians can find it easily !
