    3. Could there have been a more sensitive duty to carry out in the 39/45 War than that of the telegraph boy? Not old enough for military service but certainly, in my eyes, doing a mans job. I well recall the day when one very tall lad, complete with pill box hat leaned his cycle against next the next door wall and delivered his telegram to # 47. A very short time later the distraught wife from next door came in with her two bewildered under school aged daughters waving the telegram which told her John, her husband, had been killed in Norway Amongst many others I will be remembering John and his family. He was the leading trombonist in the Ransome and Marles Brass Band (Ball Bearing manufacturers later to be bombed with the loss of 47 lives including my uncle Jim) Bless and remember them all

    3. Let us also not forget those who are currently putting their lives on the line in Afghanistan and Iraq and those who have given their lives believing they can make a difference over there. I will never forget the day (18 months ago) I picked up the telephone to be informed that my friends 19 year old son had been killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. He had been there for just 5 weeks and it was his first overseas posting. He will never be forgotten. Sue Hargrave LEI Freecen project coordinator Leicestershire Genealogical Resources coordinator
