Hooray!!! I checked your recommended coraweb site this evening and discovered the Ryerson Index of Deaths and Obituaries in Australian Newspapers. I found two recent deaths of distant relatives that I thought I had no chance of ever finding. Long story short: My cousin Clara May with whom I was corresponding about the Australian branch of my Haywood family got mad and stopped speaking to me over a silly argument about the birth date of Jane Haywood, her grandmother and my grand aunt. I had stacks of proof, she had the wrong date and wouldn't budge when confronted with facts. At the time of this dispute, Clara was over 90 years old. In 2013 she would have been over 100 if she was still alive. I thought I had no way of finding out if Clara was living or not with such a recent event in question. I was able to determine from the index that Clara had died in 2009 at the age of 98. (I'll bet she is livid that I was able to find her date of death so easily online once I knew where to look!) I also found the death date of Clara's sister in 2005, that out of spite Clara wouldn't share! This is a great recent source for Australian death records and as I understand, it is continuing to grow rapidly. It was just updated a couple of days ago! So, if any of you are looking for Australian records... Keep this source in mind!
