Hello List, I have a John BANCROFT (c 1785 - after 1821) who married Susannah HIDE (c 1785 - after 1821) on 9 Dec 1808 in Worthington. They had 2 daughters that I know of, Faith b. 1817 and Ann b. 1821. Both children were born in Tonge and baptized in Breedon-on-the-Hill. Ann married William EYRE/AYRE/HAIR in Ashby de la Zouch in 1842 and died in Derby in 1889. I am looking for B&D on John and Susannah, and their parents. I found some BANCROFTs in nearby Belton on FreeREG, but can't make a connection except for the geographical proximity. Any help appreciated. Winston Cochrane Maineville, OH

Hi Winston My husband's BANCROFT ancestors came from Belton but I have made no connection to the persons you mention. Are these your ancestors? I have come across the marriage in Worthington you mention, of John & Susannah, when I transcribed some registers at LRO some years ago when I wrote down any BANCROFTs I found. I also noted the baptisms of Faith and Ann in Breedon. The following may be of interest: Breedon Burials John Bancroft (Typhus) Tonge 19 Apr 1822 33yr William Bancroft Tonge 15 May 1823 66yr I have no record of Susannah's burial. The Belton BANCROFTs came from Ibstock & Thringstone but before that from Breedon and Tonge but proof somewhat sparse. I have the following: Date Place Event Source 5th September 1748 Tonge Marriage of Robert Bancroft of Tonge to Elizabeth Feilding of Risley at Sawley Parish Church Phillimore Marriage Index They had a son John about 1748 who is my husband's ancestor. According to Robert's will in 1801 his son Daniel had a son John but I have no dates or place but he wasn't yet 21 when the will was written. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you need any specific Belton details or a transcript of Robert's will please let me know.
