A few pointers to help you get a bit further: From Ancestry.co.uk: John and Mary's surname is recorded as SHARP in the 1861 and 1871 census. They were married in 1851 in the Oakham (Rutland) district (last Quarter, vol 15 page 1327), and Mary's maiden name was TOWELL. In the 1851 census John (born about 1816) was an Ag Lab lodging 3 doors away from Mary's (born about 1824) house, in Langham, which is still in Rutland and a couple of miles out of Oakham to the NW. According to the census (1851 and 1871) Mary's father was William TOWELL, a Maltster born in Oakham about 1798; and William's wife in the 1851 census was Alice, born in Ayston (near Uppingham, Rutland) about 1792. I can't find John's parents for certain, but his father's name should be on the marriage certificate if you can get hold of it with the reference I have quoted above. On familysearch.org there is an entry for the christening on 10 Oct 1798 of a William TOWELL b 25 Sept 1798, which took place at "Bar-Gates Meeting House-Independent Or Protestant Oakhamters, Oakham, Rutland, England". He was son of Thomas and Ann, and may be Mary SHARP's father. Again familysearch records a marriage on 23 Oct 1823 in Oakham of William TOWELL and Mary BAGLEY. These may or may not be Mary SHARP's parents, but if they were, then her mother must have died and her father remarried by 1851. I am interested in this part of Rutland, as I also have ancestors who lived in Langham around this time, and who had migrated from Owston, just over the Leicestershire border (not far from Somerby). They were also "Noncomformist" by religion, and were involved in the building of the Baptist Chapel in Langham in the mid-19th century. Good luck!
