I have a John BAILEY, born 1828 in Coleorton, Leics., son of John MARSDEN and Susanna BAILEY, who were married in 1834. John BAILEY was married to C[K]atherine BRADBURY nee LEIGH on 12 April 1869 Would anyone be able to check the 1871 Census for this couple, along with the daughter of Catherine - Mary Ann BRADURY, born c1862 and also a daughter that was registered as Susan BAILEY and born 30 November 1866, but states that John BAILEY was her father and Catherine 'BAILEY' formerly BRADBURY was the mother. By the 1881 Census John BAILEY was known by his father's surname of MARSDEN. This family has been a real headache to me - my Grandmother, a daughter of the BAILEY[MARSDEN] / BRADBURY nee LEIGH marriage and always known to me, and my father, as having the surname MARSDEN, but, I've now found her registered as BAILEY, married a fellow named CURTIS whose father had changed his name from CUTLER to CURTIS around 1870, before the 1871 Census. Why. Oh why didn't they leave a paper trial?? I hope you can work your way through this without getting the grey hairs that I have!! Best wishes to all for 2008, Christine Denton nee Curtis
