Hi Listers. I am trying to find out more about an ancestor killed in December 1914. William Henry MERRICK was, according to the CWGC site, with the Leicester Regiment at the time of his death. His wife is stated to be "Ada". The only other thing that is known is that he had a son, William Herbert, who was allegedly born just after William Henry's death. I have also identified William Herbert's death, again with the Leicestershire Regiment and again on active service, in 1941 in Palestine. This again is listed in CWGC site and gives his parents as "William Henry & Ada". I have searched the normal GRO index listings at findmypast.com to try to pinpoint William Henry's marriage but with no success. His birth is deinfitive - in 1885. On this site I have also now worked at the military records and have finally found some evidence of the mysterious Williams. In the Army Returns Births 1911-1915 there is a manual addition for the birth of "Merrick, William H". The birthplace is impossible to decipher but it does give the year as 1914 and the reference as 221A. In the Army Roll of Honour database I find William Herbert's death in 1941 - and his birthplace listed as "India". I suspect therefore that his parents, William Henry and "Ada", may have married in India? Can anyone offer any advice on how best to proceed from here to obtain more information and details on William Henry's marriage and William Herbert's birth in India? This has been a long-standing wall in my research and any advice on whether this information I have uncovered can help me to break it down would be much appreciated. Best regards.
