    3. My great grandfather was born inleichestershire probably in year of 1851 or even 1854. I understand he was born of a Mrs. McNutt or probably Mrs Askew, have heard both names mentioned. The family says he was in Troy Alabama , USA, and that a Dr. Miller adopted him and brought to the State of GA. and city of Columbus.... cousin say that she believes his Mother was in a work house and perhaps that is why he was sent to the states, frandbak@bellsouth. Thanks for any info.

    3. Hi Frank? I think some first names would be useful Do you have your great grandfathers first name and his mothers, plus her age if you know it Without first names as a minimum I cannot see how you could proceed, even with its a very long shot There are 11 male ASKEWs registered in Leicestershire between 1850 and 1854 but no MCNUTTs There is of course the possibility that he was given a completely new name both forename and surname if he were adopted by someone who did not care for his birth name Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > My great grandfather was born inleichestershire probably in year of 1851 > or even 1854. 3. We really need a bit more information to be able to help you! What was his first name? And was his surname Askew? When did he get to USA - is that what the 3yr old bit refers to? If he was still in UK in 1861 we have more chance of tracking him down and possibly his mother in the census.
