Hi List I have some WOODCOCK's who died in Hinckley. Benjamin died in 1841 and Ann, his wife died in 1847. Benjamin was a bricklayer and sand merchant. He was a Yeoman of the town, whatever that means. Does anyone know where they might be buried? Many thanks Mike Woodcock Brisbane, Australia
Mike, At that date I would expect them to be buried in the churchyard - i.e. the cemetery surrounding the parish church. I don't have access to the parish burial register to check - perhaps another list member could check for you. Although many churchyards became full during the latter part of the 19th Cent - especially in London - outside the metropolitan areas many churchyards were accepting burials until the end of the 19th Cent and some rural churchyards are still open. My g-grandfather who died in 1916 is buried in Hinckley Cemetery in Ashby Road but it wasn't opened until 1858.
