Hi again As a civilian any event should be under the Consulate records but I did not see any Many events on foreign shores went unrecorded or the record has been lost, less likely with a Consulate record than an Army event Some people simply didn't bother as they were to busy or to far from the place of registration , many baptised children on their return to the UK and believed that was enough You would think given his title he would have recorded any events of his own wouldn't you Did he have his family with him there or return to the UK for visits I take it you have tried the newspapers of the period Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Nivard, > > Many thanks for the reply, and the site but as you say only the one army > which is not one I was after. > The father John Rowland Crook is listed on shipping as Director of Public > Records / Works in Gibraltar. > > Regards and thanks > Daphne.
The Civil BDM records for Gibraltar have been microfilmed by the LDS. The microfilms can be ordered into your local LDS library for a small sum (recovery of the p&p costs). < http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&titleno=440722&disp=Civil+registration &columns=*,0,0 > David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: Nivard Ovington Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 6:16 AM Hi again As a civilian any event should be under the Consulate records but I did not see any Many events on foreign shores went unrecorded or the record has been lost, less likely with a Consulate record than an Army event Some people simply didn't bother as they were to busy or to far from the place of registration , many baptised children on their return to the UK and believed that was enough You would think given his title he would have recorded any events of his own wouldn't you Did he have his family with him there or return to the UK for visits I take it you have tried the newspapers of the period Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Nivard, > > Many thanks for the reply, and the site but as you say only the one army > which is not one I was after. > The father John Rowland Crook is listed on shipping as Director of Public > Records / Works in Gibraltar. > > Regards and thanks > Daphne.

Hi Nivard, Thanks again, I had tried papers but no luck The family of John Rowland were with him and they seem to have gone backwards and forwards to England, wife was Jean Lydia nee Kirkwood born Scotland. Sons Rowland J. and Hugh W.D. found in 1911 census at school in Upton on Severn, both born Gibraltar, but I have found Rowland in births on 1904 in Wycombe Bucks which does make sense as this was where John R. C. went back to from Gibraltar. Hugh became a doctor and died 1939, son John Winslow Crook died 1934 at about age 21. Daughter Enid Margaret married 1938 and was granted probate of her fathers estate in 1940, she died 1996. Thanks again Daphne, -----Original Message----- From: Nivard Ovington Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2011 11:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LEI] Births in Gibraltar Hi again As a civilian any event should be under the Consulate records but I did not see any Many events on foreign shores went unrecorded or the record has been lost, less likely with a Consulate record than an Army event Some people simply didn't bother as they were to busy or to far from the place of registration , many baptised children on their return to the UK and believed that was enough You would think given his title he would have recorded any events of his own wouldn't you Did he have his family with him there or return to the UK for visits I take it you have tried the newspapers of the period Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Nivard, > > Many thanks for the reply, and the site but as you say only the one army > which is not one I was after. > The father John Rowland Crook is listed on shipping as Director of Public > Records / Works in Gibraltar. > > Regards and thanks > Daphne. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
