The FREARSON family - and variants - DNA Project is now up and running. Many FREARSON families came from Leicestershire and Derbyshire. Of the 20 or so surviving UK Frearson lines that need to be investigated, about half are from Leicestershire, which is also an important area for possibly related variants of the surname. There may also be parts of some family lines where a male-discontinuity means that testing may be less uninformative. For those with the surname FREARSON - or variants such as FREASON, FREERSON, FRIERSON, or even less similar surnames such as FREAR or FREESTONE, this DNA project will hopefully assist in establishing any past links. If you are [or have contact with] a male with an applicable FREARSON or similar surname, now is an idea time to get involved; it is currently possible to participate at a discounted DNA project price for testing for the rest of this month. It could be an ideal Christmas gift for a family historian. Non direct-line males, and other family members who are not direct Frearson descendants, who may be unable to participate in the DNA testing itself, can help by donating a small amount to support the project, so that a subsidised or free DNA test kit to those with more limited budgets, but who may provide important links in the DNA knowledge base.
