    1. [LEI] Campaign to open Historic Civil Registers
    2. Guy Etchells
    3. There is a campaign to get the Historic Birth, Marriage and Death registers open to the public without having to purchase certificates. This could be done by either transferring the centralised registers held by the GRO to the National Archive or by transferring the registers held by superintendent registrars to the County Record Offices. In addition a number of commercial companies would be willing to digitise the registers allowing them to be available online and also available at the archives free of charge. See *http://tinyurl.com/nnrr23j* for further details. The government is amenable to opening data to the public, the Registrars General have continually claimed to "be working towards this". For this campaign to work your support is necessary, please write or email to your MP and ask them to support the campaign. If you are a member of the Society of Genealogists or a Family History Society, please contact them and ask them to support the campaign. Also please talk to your friends, write to newspapers, forums, mailing lists radio and TV, the more people that are aware of the campaign the more chance of success. Apathy will destroy any chance of success. These registers are your heritage. They are archived for your information Please help to make it Easier and Cheaper to access them Cheers Guy

    3. Please could anyone who has the Leics Marriage CD or access to any other records tell me who Mary Annie Cooke or Emma Elizabeth Cooke married or find either of them in the 1891, 1801, 1911 census? I believe Mary Annie married in Apr- Jun 1886 to either William Thomas HARDING or William Thomas JONES but I cannot find either of these in the 1891 or 1901 census as I have little info to go on. Mary A Cooke was born St Martins, Leics, Oct-Dec 1860, parents John Cooke and Mary Ann Poppleton. Mary's sister was Emma Elizabeth Cooke, b St Martins, Leics Oct - Dec 1862, who may have married Walter Winterton CHAMBERS or Harry NORMAN also in Apr - Jun 1886 but again, I cannot find either of them in the later census. I have to admit here that my Ancestry sub has run out and I am using some free units on fmp and I do not find the site as easy to use! If anyone has any connections to the Cook(e)s originating from Oakham/Whissendine areas in Rutland but a few of them moving to Leics in later years, I would love to hear from you and compare notes. Best wishes Carolyn

What I have noticed is a lack of female employees who were employed during WW 1 and WW 2 - does anyone have any details they would share with me - details I am looking for are forenames , maiden surname , married surname ,approx year of birth and approx dates of starting and finishing . It is my intention to revise the records already lodged with Leics County Records Office and Leic and Rutland family history society . Also would anyone have knowledge of other records where I might find any of this information . T I A . Mick Wilson .

    3. Hi, Verne, It just occurred to me--have you contacted that Coalville House records office to ask if they might have any images or other information about the "other Coalville House" that no longer exists? When my cousin contacted the records office in Wigston Magna, they found a vintage watercolor hanging on one of their walls of the original Chapel of St. James in Hugglescote which also no longer exists. My cousin was very graciously allowed to photograph it for us. Another place where I have found helpful people (if you can be patient until they aren't busy) is the Coalville Library. I have tried not to be a pest. I have asked for very specific help twice in seven years and pleaded distance issues each time for why I can't go there myself. Both times, I have found willing people to help with short term searches and report the results by e-mail. Carolyn in Minnesota (watch out--today's big snowstorm is heading your way!
