    3. Hi Lyn, To supplement John's response, I have looked at what records are available via LDS films for Hinckley General Baptists, and the EYRE name doesn't appear, so you are probably pretty safe in discounting the General Baptists from the search. A major problem is that IGI coverage for Leicestershire is extremely patchy. However, there are a good few church registers for Hinckley filmed by the LDS, so you will be able to order the films and read them at your nearest LDS (Mormon) Family History Centre in Shropshire. (Check phone book under "Church of Latter Day Saints" for the library nearest to you, or on www.familysearch.org ). This link shows the different church records available for Hinckley. Unfortunately tinyurl.com appears to be out of commission at this moment, so you will have to ensure that you paste it entirely into your web browser: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails&subject=390604&subject_disp=England%2C+Leicester%2C+Hinckley+%2D+Church+records&columns=*,0,0 Regards, Blanche Charles Wellington New Zealand East Midlands General Baptist History http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~blanchec/EMidBaps.htm --------------------------------------------- "John Cooper" <jcooper@rtpcompany.com> wrote: You will not find William Eyre's birth in the civil registration records as they did not start until 1837. We know he married Mary Mason in 1824. We also know he had a sister Hannah, but I can't find a record of a Hannah Eyre born in Leicester on the IGI. He died in 1874 and he left a will, which mentions his sister Hannah. Of all the birth records I have searched around 1800 +/- several years I can find none for William Eyre in Leicester. Does Hinckley get listed as Leicester or does it have it's own separate records? ---------------------------------------------------------------

    3. I need some help finding Louisa A.E. PERKES on the 1901 census. (This is not a Leicestershire problem; LEI happens to be the only list I subscribe to and I've nowhere else to turn to for help.) Louisa Augusta Emma WALTER aka Emma WALTER was born in Lewisham, Kent on 30th December 1859 (birth certificate). She is unmarried and on the Ramsgate 1891 census as Louisa A.E. WALTER Her mother's 1st September 1895 Plymouth will clearly says that Louisa is married to Victor PERKES but the will doesn't give an address. There is a Victor PERKS born about 1856 living in Dulwich on the 1881 census. He is a Captain Merchant Service Sman. I can't find Victor PERKES/PERKS' birth or marriage on FreeBMD either. Would someone be willing to have a go at this problem for me please? Regards Trevor

    3. Liz: I know in a letter my grandmother wrote me when her mom & her departed from Liverpool, England to St. John's Brunswick it took 8 days. They were suppose to land in Montreal, Canada but the St. Lawrence River was still frozen. That was the end of March in 1920. Then they had to take a long train ride to their destination. Don't know if that helps or not. 1. Re: [LEI] Looking for Hinckley birth record
    2. Mike Gould
    3. Hi Lyn, I also have an ancestor who was born in Hinckley around 1800. I believe mine may have had Baptist parents and I have searched the Baptist records, which are on microfilm in Hinckley library, amongst other places. I have come to the conclusion that either the Hinckley Baptists did not record births at that time, or the records have not survived. There is a Register of Births, but it is clear from the entries that they have been recorded after the event (perhaps many years), since whole families are recorded consecutively, even though the births took place over 10 - 20 years in some cases. I think my chap is missing because by the time they decided to record births, he had moved away from the area. By the 1820's or so, the Baptist records get much better. If your ancestor was Anglican, he should appear in the Hinckley Parish Registers. Best wishes, Mike Gould -----Original Message----- From: leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lyn L Sent: 11 March 2008 11:38 To: LEICESTERSHIRE-PLUS@rootsweb.com Subject: [LEI] Looking for Hinckley birth record Hello I Live in Shropshire, and I am looking to get a birth date and details of a William Eyre, who on later census records puts his birth place as Leicester. 2. John Cooper
    3. Lyn, In 1871 William is living at 45, Vine Street in the All Saints parish of Leicester with William Barsby, aged 62, b. Leicester and Hannah Barsby, aged 64, b. Hinckley. I suspect that Hannah is William's sister. In 1851 and 1861 William b. abt. 1802 is also stated as b. Hinckley. Mary Eyre nee Mason appears to have died before 1841 as she is not with William who is stated as b. Leicestershire in the 1841 census of Leicester All Saints. The 1841 census states that William and Hannah Barsby have a nine year old son, Edward. You will not find William Eyre's birth in the civil registration records as they did not start until 1837. You might expect to find his and Hannah's christenings in the parish register or non-conformist registers for Hinckley but they are not on the IGI. If there's nothing there you have your answer. If there is, check your junk mail folder. If the messages are there, you need to train your spam filters to behave themselves properly. If it isn't there, contact your ISP to make sure they haven't blacklisted Rootsweb. AOL are pretty good at doing that on a fairly regular basis.
