Hello Mike Have you seen Elizabeth's sister Amy (with baby Eliza), brother John and father listed in the Uppingham workhouse 1871, 1881, 1891? I can't see Elizabeth anywhere in those censuses (perhaps she emigrated?). The Elizabeth DUNMORE who died in 1st Q 1865 Market Harborough was aged 67, and from Stonton Wyville - so not yours. Good luck, John ----- Original Message ---- From: Mike <casofilia@xtra.co.nz> To: LEICESTERSHIRE-PLUS@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, 27 May, 2008 2:15:56 AM Subject: [LEI] DUNMORE c1865 Hello Leicester Listers Elizabeth DUNMORE was born in Uppingham Rutland in 1848. She appears in the 1851 and 1861 censuses but I cannot find her after that. There are 3 Elizabeth DUNMORE marriages between 1861 and 1871 in FreeBMD but they do not tie in with any useful material in the 1871 census. However there is a death in FreeBMD of an Elizabeth DUNMORE in the Mar Q 1865; Mt Harbro 7a ___; before ages are recorded!! Can anyone see anything I am missing? Or can anyone help with any detail about the death in 1865?

Hi list, Yesterdays site updated with hundreds of Removals. Around forty were to places in Leicestershire and contain many names of Leicestershire folks. There are also listed under Derbyshire, although now in Leics, orders of Removal from Measham, Stretton en le Field and Packington. For Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe check Gresley. There are also orders for Appleby and Ravenstone listed under Derbyshire. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm

Hi Listers. I am trying to find out more about an ancestor killed in December 1914. William Henry MERRICK was, according to the CWGC site, with the Leicester Regiment at the time of his death. His wife is stated to be "Ada". The only other thing that is known is that he had a son, William Herbert, who was allegedly born just after William Henry's death. I have also identified William Herbert's death, again with the Leicestershire Regiment and again on active service, in 1941 in Palestine. This again is listed in CWGC site and gives his parents as "William Henry & Ada". I have searched the normal GRO index listings at findmypast.com to try to pinpoint William Henry's marriage but with no success. His birth is deinfitive - in 1885. On this site I have also now worked at the military records and have finally found some evidence of the mysterious Williams. In the Army Returns Births 1911-1915 there is a manual addition for the birth of "Merrick, William H". The birthplace is impossible to decipher but it does give the year as 1914 and the reference as 221A. In the Army Roll of Honour database I find William Herbert's death in 1941 - and his birthplace listed as "India". I suspect therefore that his parents, William Henry and "Ada", may have married in India? Can anyone offer any advice on how best to proceed from here to obtain more information and details on William Henry's marriage and William Herbert's birth in India? This has been a long-standing wall in my research and any advice on whether this information I have uncovered can help me to break it down would be much appreciated. Best regards. Hi folks Its the lighter coloured metals - as to the "black" smith = dark metals Bye for now Jilly
Good morning list, Have recently come across the occupation of 'Whitesmith'. Have searched in my dictionaries but cannot find it. Can anyone enlighten me please ?. June Fleetwood of Bradford, West Yorkshire
Oops should have Googled first A whitesmith is a person who works with "white" or light-colored metals such as tin and pewter. While blacksmiths work mostly with hot metal, whitesmiths do the majority of their work on cold metal (although they might use a forge to shape their raw materials). -----Original Message----- From: leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of June Fleetwood Sent: Saturday, May 24, 2008 6:35 AM To: LEICESTERSHIRE PLUS Subject: [LEI] Occupations Good morning list, Have recently come across the occupation of 'Whitesmith'. This request was posted some time ago without any known response. Hopefully new members of the list may be able to help. Seeking information relating to John Crisp who married Betsy Elizabeth Smith. John was born circa 1744 and had two known children - Arthur Ernest born circa 1877 and Ada Elizabeth born circa 1881 both reputedly in Leicester. The family later migrated to Tasmania where Arthur Ernest served with the AIF during WW1. It was on his attestation papers he quoted a date of birth as 19 Apr 1878, born Leicester. Such has been the difficulty in tracing this family that I may have to resort to looking at all births on 19 Apr 1878 - has anyone attempted this before? An associated family name is WALTON who also migrated from Leicester to Tasmania sometime in the 1880s. Any help will be appreciated. Les Shephard.

Hi Listers, I am looking for someone in the US and Australia who could scan and email me the advertisement pages from the top family history magazines of those continents. I've tried to apply for a free copy of the magazine but the publishers require a credit card number and I don't have one. Any magazine from the last couple of months will be ok. Failing that if you have a magazine that you have finished with I would gladly pay the shipping to the uk.Please contact me off list if you can help me. Regards Paul
