Hi listers, I'm looking for info on William Flavell and his wife Ann. William is the father of William, born 4 Jan 1784, All Saints Church, Loughborough. I would like to know the birth date of William Sr. and the maiden name of Ann. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mickey Flaville Phila., PA, USA
A marriage is listed in the IGI as follows ;- William Smart, aged 50 and Charlotte Ellis, aged 34. 3rd Feb 1851 in Dunton Bassett, Leicestershire (Dunton Bassett is within Lutterworth District) Because of their ages it is quite possible (even probable) that Bride and/or Groom were married before, therefore Ellis may not be Charlotte's "maiden" name. Their marriage certificate will confirm this. Best wishes, Mark In a message dated 06/11/08 18:32:01 GMT Daylight Time, jeffrey.ellis@ntlworld.com writes: Good evening list I wonder if anyone with the Lutterworth Parish Records would be kind enough to look at a marriage for me please. The 1851 census for Dunton Bassett shows a William Smart (aged 50 years of Dunton Bassett) being married to a Charlotte (aged 36 years from Ullesthorpe). As a guide, the FreeBMD shows a marriage in the district of Lutterworth, in 1851, of a William Smart. It shows a possible match to a Charlotte Ellis. Could I ask that Charlotte's maiden name be verified please. There is also an interesting earlier Emmanuel STURGESS mentoned on I.G.I. in Rutland about 18 miles from your Lincolnshire marriage which might give a clue. Emmanuel isn't, in my experience, a very common name? Just like to say thank you to David and John for all their hard work helping to find out why my husband's grandad was the only one amongst his brothers and sisters to be born in Leicester. Not only have you solved that mystery, but also found out where his grandma Prudence was in 1891, which was another question I have been trying to answer for some time. You were great, Kindest regards, Linda

Hello everyone, I have just uploaded a free database of the newly transcribed CRIMEA WAR MEDAL ROLLS for the 17th Regiment of Foot (Leicestershire) to my Military Images web site. the link to Military Images can be found at :- _www.militarybadges.org.uk_ (http://www.militarybadges.org.uk) The database which was transcribed by my wife Annie Capewell contains seven sections which are alphabetically sorted by the Soldiers Surname. The total database contains approx. 2,500 entries and totals almost 8 megabytes of information. Once you have reached the front page of Military Images please scroll down to the Leicester/Leicestershire/Rutland/Leicestershire Regiment section and you will find a link to the Crimea medal rolls there. Also in that section you will find a link to the transcription of the Crimea War casualty lists for the 17th Regiment of Foot. For those who may be new to the military side of family history research, the 17th Regiment of Foot was renamed as the Leicestershire Regiment in 1881 and then the Royal Leicestershire Regiment in 1947. Best wishes and happy hunting from Roger Capewell

Hi Pat If there is no-one on the list who wants your certificate, google "BMD certificate exchange" and you will find several websites where you can post the details of your unwanted one. I have no experience of this myself - maybe others, who have, can explain how easy (or not) and how successful (or not) the system is. Hi Listers, If any of you have been in recent contact with Melton Council, please be aware the offices were devastated by a fire on the morning of Friday, 30th May. The staff are working from temporary accommodation and it sounds as if they are retrieving what information they can from hard drives but anything on paper may have been destroyed.
