Hi All, I'm trying to find out who my father is, maybe some kind soul can help? I was born Graham Pollard when I was 7 Years old I was adopted to the Hill family from Anstey Leicestershire, who is related to the Pollard family. At the time I was being adopted, my Adopted family was planning to migrate to Australia. Several weeks before my adopted family was due to migrate to australia my natural father put in an objecton to me leaving the UK. My adopted family had to migrate to Australia leaving me back in the UK.Weeks later court action must have been sorted out allowing me to leave the UK. Luckly for me my adopted family had relatives ( my now aunt and uncle ) leaving for Australia and I migrated ther with them. Now I have never been able to find out just who my natural father is the only clue is the person who blocked me from leaving the UK ( This person is my father ). My question is, is there a Government Department that I may go to to find out who stopped me from leaving the ! UK? If I can find out who this person is, I can then start my family tree. Graham ( Pollard ) Hill.
Hi Graham Doing a little detective work from the information you have given in your emails I would guess your birth entry on the GRO Index is most likely to be: Graham M Pollard Birth: Leicester, September Quarter 1952, Vol 3A Page 723 Mother's maiden name: Pollard (There is another entry in the same quarter for a Graham S Pollard but from your email address I would guess your middle name starts with "M") If this is correct, from this information you should be able to order your birth certificate directly. The website to go to is: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ The "Contact Us" section of the site also gives a link to information on adoption. As the mother's maiden name here is the same as your surname the indication would appear to be that your mother was unmarried, and the certificate may or may not contain your father's name. However, at least this would give you a start. I hope this helps - and good luck! Hello, I am new to the list. I am researching the surname Kendall and their connection to Leicestershire. We hope to find connections between the American Kendall families and our English roots. We are conducting a Kendall DNA Project to help supplement our conventional genealogy. If you would like to share your family history or learn more about our project please contact me at [email protected] Thank you Scott Kendall
I went to the Roll of Honour site for Leicestershire and Brantson is not listed. How did you find it? Hi, fellow seekers, Does anyone have a list of the names on the Branston War Memorial? Lou
When at school prior to WW2 I had a French pen pal. I have often wondered what happened to him in the war as he lived in the occupied part of France but had lost his address.i recently found it while the loft was being cleared and have written to the French Embassy in London twice and to the mayor of his home town at that time which was L`Aigle Orne in both english and french with no reply, no surprise there. Does anyone know of any organisation which may possibly have any information on him.

Graham Not that I can help with the answer as such, but I presume this Fathers name isn't on your Birth Certificate? Graham, Have you applied for your birth certificate yet? There are special arrangements for adopted children - see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Registeringlifeevents/Birthandadoptionrecords/Adoptionrecords/DG_175603 and http://www.ukbirth-adoptionregister.com/resources.php These sites have lots of useful information plus contacts and links. Thanks all It's not a name I know but it's entirely possible it's them - could be friends of my family, or relatives by marriage. Gives me something more to go on, anyway! :) Em On 17 May 2012 07:26, Gerry Newnham <[email protected]> wrote: > Just a thought but the Geary family may have had lodgers. Just a thought but the Geary family may have had lodgers. These might show up if you check the Electoral Registers. I believe these are held at the Leicestershire Archives and the British Library may also have a set. It's a family scene but there are no names and I know my Mum didn't know who they were. Would anyone know how I might find out who lived at 35 Turner Road in 1935? I can't find anything on Ancestry, and Historical Directories doesn't seem to have anything later than 1916. Can SKS help? Much obliged, Em I have the 1929 directory here (perhaps not close enough to 1935) 35 Turner Road was occupied by Leonard GEARY Motor driver. Cheers Rod

Hi listers Does anyone know how to contact Martyn Parsons from the Ratcliffe Culey website? The contact form is not working. One of my Enderby people married there in 1849 and I'd like some more details if poss. http://www.mdlp.co.uk/resources/ratcliffe/index.htm thanks chaps! Elizabeth www.enderbyheritage.org.uk
Thanks Nivard I did find that 1851 census for John and Martha - not a lot of confectioners which is a positive. The mother Elizabeth came from John's death certificate - Sarah (his wife) didn't know the father's name but knew the mother's name and the occupation which seems strange. I wondered if the father might have died and the mother carried on the business.
