    3. Sarah Ann CHAPMAN, daughter of John & Mary Ann CHAPMAN was aged 4 months in 1851. She does not appear on the 1861 census. A Sarah Ann Chapman died in the June qtr. of 1852 and another died in the September qtr. of 1854. Could either of these be the daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann? Is there SKS who is able to look up the burials in Welford Road Cemetery for a Sarah Ann CHAPMAN at those dates? 3. Hi Pearl, Only a little information, but it may help. Ancestry Passenger Lists has the following: Name: Thomas Squire Year: 1834 Place: New York, New York Source Publication Code: 8258 Primary Immigrant: Squire, Thomas Annotation: In 1825, an Act of the New York Legislature enabled resident aliens to acquire, use, or hold real estate. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1978. 122p. Page: 106 I can't see a reference to his wife or children. 2. After many years of searching for my grandfather I have found an entry in a ships list to Canada .This was in 1928 on the SS Aurania to Quebec. In the column asking for relatives to follow my grandmother, although with a different variation on her first name, is listed at the address that I was born at. So I have a positive ID on him. Also listed are previous entries by him into Canada the years are typed and the months have been handwritten beside them. The dates were 1900 1914 1923 1924. He married my grandmother in 1920 ( I have the certificate).Armed with this info I visited the library to use Ancestry and was overwhelmed by the number of results retuned by my various searches. In addition the library was having connection problems with the internet and we are only allowed one hour sessions now so I had a very frustrating time. Also on the passenger list next to his name was a rubber stamp entry "copy on file No.." and then handwritten 377100 would anyone know what this would refer to. Sorry that this is a bit long winded but my question is - can anyone offer some tips and advice on using the search on Ancestry and how would I find where he travelled on to. This was obviously a govt sponsored scheme that he was on everybody on the page had the same amount of money $15 and looked as if they were all going for the harvesting. Passage was paid by government . Regards Mike

    3. Mike, If want some context, you can google "British Harvesters" (the term on the 1928 passenger record you provided) you will find a couple of articles about the use of British agricultural labour in the 1920s on the Canadian Prairies. It became quite controversial. In particular, try 10 Sept 1928-- British Harvesters: Experiences in Canada (a newspaper article in "Trove") and "British Harvesters: the Toronto to Ottawa Trek.
