    1. [LEI] HUBBARD - Haplogroup I2a
    2. Janice Cassani
    3. I am re-posting this it was suggested I include the surname in my subject. (Thank you, Annette) Looking for HUBBARDS whose DNA testing has them in the Haplogroup I2a group. Out of 87 DNA submitters, my dad and my 3rd cousin are the only Hubbards in that group so far. My dad's line immigrated to the USA in 1887 and my cousin's line stayed in England. We have tracked our ancestors back to 1740 in Narborough, Leicestershire, England. Thank you. Janice Cassani Massachusetts, USA

    3. Hi Adrian, I'm sure that when I was last at the Leicestershire Record Office they had a book on sale that was about Leicestershire asylums. Unfortunately, I can't remember the title, but I'm sure they would be able to tell you. You can contact them at recordoffice@leics.gov.uk The records themselves are subject to closure restrictions. I think it is 100 years, but again my memory is not what it was ;-) If you can access the records (they are not online - it needs a personal visit or to hire a researcher), they can be fascinating. For example, here is the record of William QUAIL, who chased his wife with an axe, : Shown in register of Carlton Hayes patients, DE 3533/145 No. 3970, shown as admitted from Loughborough on 28th June 1879. Then shown on 15th Nov 1879, under deaths and discharges, as "c" (cured ?). No. 4054, shown as admitted from Loughborough on 2nd March 1880 Case Book DE 3533/195 (Apr 1877 - Sep 1880) gives details No. 3970: confirmed date of admission as 28th June 1879. Age 35, married, 7 children, duration of attack: 1 month, if first attack: yes, residence Loughborough By order of Edward H Warner esq, J.P. J Riley R.O. Loughborough Names of medical certifier W.G. Palmer, M.K.C.S. Nearest relative: Mary Ann Quail (wife), Gladstone St., Loughborough. Occupation: Iron Moulder Character: Good Religion: Roman Catholic Assigned Causes: Moral: none Physical: Privation - Ill health Hereditary: Yes, an Aunt was an inmate here Physical State Height 5' 1 1/2" Weight 8.1 (stone.pounds) Certificate: His manner is very depressed, he is now recovering from injuries to his head, inflicted by himself with a gorse hook, in attempting to destroy himself. A very small man with a pale face & blank expression - 4 or 5 half healed incised wounds over frontal bone - has a goatee beard - short dark hair of sandy complexion - tongue coated - bowels ???? (cushin ?) - appetite fairly good - lungs & heart presenting nothing abnormal. Diagnosis Melancholia History - has been ill for some months. complained of back and his head. Has not been in good work for some months. Father intempate. No decline in family. Mental condition - reserved, silent, inoffensive, senses dull, attention weak - he repeats all that is said to him, once or twice as if he could not hear it or take it in at once - suffers from rage apprehensions, attention also wandering - lost again in a minute (?) after answering - complains of lightness & pain in head now at times - unoccupied (?) in any way. Best wishes, Mike Gould -----Original Message----- From: leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:leicestershire-plus-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of adriangardner1@btinternet.com Sent: 08 September 2013 12:26 To: Leicestershire-Plus@rootsweb.com Subject: [LEI] Leicester Borough Asylum. 3. Looking for Hubbards who submitted their DNA and are in the Haplogroup I2a. I already put a request into the Hubbard mailing list, but thought I would try this one as that's where my Hubbards lived during the 1700-1900's. Janice Cassani

    3. I am frustrated at trying to fathom out my ancestors move to Norfolk. Henry MUIRHEAD (abt 1788) & Isabel RANKINE (1782) from Falkirk had 10 children between 1804 & 1826 all in Falkirk. The second born John (1808) apparently married Ann MILLAR (1811) in Cardross, Dunbarton in 1836. Before that, Ann was born in Leicester, (Somerby) in 1832, she was followed by Henry (1836), John (1841), William (1842), Jesse (1843) & James Robert (1849). The 1851 census for South Bond Street, Leicester shows that all after Ann,  were born in Edinburgh except for James born in Greenock. Again all except for Ann moved south to Norwich. It looks as though Henry & Ann were in Leicester and gave birth to Ann, moved back to Scotland and got married, had further family before going back to Leicester. It is possible that they then moved to Norwich,  for on the 1861 census thay are at Coslany Street, Norwich. (Jesse did marry Thomas CATCHPOLE and returned to Leicester before 1881) I have made searches on Scotlands People but cannot seem to trace any of this family, some years ago I applied for a Birth Certificate for James but they could not trace him. I would be grateful if anyone with the slightest bit of info could get in touch. James is my Great Granfather.

Deaths Jun 1946  Barnes    Charles    69    Leicester    7a    234      Deaths Jun 1950  Barnes    Charles F    81    Leicester    3a    494   Could either of these be him? A few quick thoughts..... 1) He sounds like the sort of fellow who might just conceivably have made an appearance in the London Gazette (bankruptcy or something to do with partnership in a company). 2) Have you checked the online British Newspaper Archive? 3) Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Famous family trees blog: http://blog.findmypast.co.uk/tag/roy-stockdill/ "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 1. [LEI] Charles BARNES, accountant of Leicester.
    2. Hello there.   This man's name first appears as an executor and co-trustee in the will of my grandfather George Peck which was drawn up in 1924. The next time I come across him is in 1932 when shortly following the death of his fellow trustee, he puts Grandpa George's hosiery business George Peck Ltd, into voluntary liquidation which he buys back for a song. In the process he winds up the trust leaving George's widow Jane, without a home or income.   I feel that I need to know more about this man and wonder is someone could come up with any help or guidance as to where I might find further information?   Thank you.   Adrian.

    2. From: "Terenceholmes156@gmail.com" <terenceholmes156@gmail.com> > Looking for mother of poss ancester  agnes annie bennett born 1906 wigston > blaby dist> What's the problem? Here's the birth record at FreeBMD, so you could buy the certificate either from the register office or online from the GRO website. That would be the obvious thing to do. Births Mar 1906 Bennett Agnes Annie Blaby 7a 26 The 1911 census shows only one possible candidate, i.e Annie Bennett, aged 5, no birth place given, living with parents Edwin, 35, labourer, born Wigston, and Emily, 33, hosiery hand, born Hopsford, Warwickshire, married 7 years, only the one child. Reference..... RG14PN18984 RG78PN1133 RD401 SD1 ED12 SN324 Registration District: Blaby Sub District: Wigston Enumeration District: 12 Parish: Wigston Magna Address: Welford Road Wigston Magna I would, however, advise getting the birth certificate to check. Sometimes in genealogy one has to spend money rather than just ask others to do it for you. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Famous family trees blog: http://blog.findmypast.co.uk/tag/roy-stockdill/ "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 1. Re: [LEI] William Henry BILLSON (c1856 - ????)
    2. Rosemary & Stan Rodliffe
    3. Thanks for that Mike, I guess I'd written him off because he was the son of Thomas Richardson and Harriet Pilcher. Thomas died between 1853 and 1861 (possibilities 1858 & 1859) and Harriet remarried to William Billson Sep Q 1859. I can't find a decease or emigration for a relevant Billson so I obviously need to chase a possible Richardson in case he reverted to his birth surname.
