Hi ?? Marriages abroad would be registered in that Country Recording would also vary according to that Country and if it was a member of the Commonwealth (such as Fiji) If the couple were residing abroad they would need to approach their Embassy or Consulate in that Country to gain the appropriate documentation, a certificate of no impediment would be required by the Country in which they intended to marry and other legalised documents as required by that Country The Consulate or Embassy may pass the information back to the Government department here If they are resident in the UK and want to marry abroad they would need to apply for the certificate of no impediment from their local registrars office They may need to exchange that with the consulate in the intended Country of marriage The couple can also apply to deposit their marriage certificate with the GRO but as there is a cost to that you wonder how many might do that Apart from the above it appears there are many ways in which there may be no record in the UK Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 03/11/2013 13:08, DrGeneal@aol.com wrote: > > With the present popularity of going to exotic places to get married, for > example the greek islands, Madagascar or Fiji I have found it difficult > to > trace some marriages. The couple would have to go to the government department which would have the marriage registration if it wasn't registered with the British authorities. An English translation would also be needed if it wasn't already in English. An historical marriage can be found in the Overseas Marriages on FMP (and Ancestry?) but only if the marriage was registered with the British authorities at the time otherwise it would be the government department in the country where it took, if known. -- Connie http://oursalmons.wordpress.com/
The marriage would be recorded in the country where it took place. There may only be a record of it in the UK if (a) the marriage were carried out here, or (b) there may be a church record if a later blessing or similar ceremony was carried out. For a copy of a certificate for a marriage that took place in England or Wales, you should apply to the General Register Office. With the present popularity of going to exotic places to get married, for example the greek islands, Madagascar or Fiji I have found it difficult to trace some marriages. Has anybody any experience of this? Where would they have to go if they required a copy of their wedding certificate for a passport or similar? Are these marriages recorded in England? This has been provoked by a relative who works in China and has married a Chinese

Ruth has now been found in the 1841 census, a widowed school mistress; together with another possible daughter Emma b1828. Again, any further information will be greatly received. -- *Bjorn*
I'm seeking any information about Ruth Walker who died in Lutterworth 2nd quarter of 1865. According to census returns she had been a school mistress and was born about 1790 in Ullesthorpe. I can't find her in the 1841 census. I need to confirm whether she was my 3rd g/grandmother, Ruth Knight, who married William Walker 16 march 1819 in Wolvey. Her daughter Ann was born the same year, after which Ruth and William apparently disappear. I can't locate any burial records for Frolesworth where Ruth was living prior to her death, and am hoping that she was baptised and buried in the same parish. Bjorn
I've just been driving home and listening to a programme on BBC Radio 4 in their "Open Country" series about the re-opening of The Mountsorell Granite Railway. This short line connected the granite quarry in Mountsorrel with The Great Central Railway at Swithland and was closed some 40+ years ago when the main line ceased to exist. It has been restored, and continues to be restored, by local volunteers with a minimum of money and a maximum of effort. It made fascinating listening and I'm sure will appeal to all lovers of local history, not just railway geeks. It will be available on the "Listen Again" page of BBC Radio 4 fairly soon - it only finished at 15.30 GMT. Here is a link to the relevant website, but it may be later this afternoon before it is on-line. Brian Binns http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/bbc_radio_four/20131031

Hi June Glad you have it under control again BT use Yahoo *the* worst email client for spam and hacked accounts, they have announced they are moving away from Yahoo to their own BT Mail "in weeks" I don't know if that is their own system or disguised under something else Sky used Gmail until March this year and announced they would move over to Yahoo by April, as soon as they announced it I started a fresh Gmail account and unsubscribed all of my lists and resubscribed with Gmail As a result I have had no disruption, no auto-unsubscribing and continued to receive all mail I know some of those that stayed with Sky/Yahoo and have been unsubscribed from lists wholesale and have at best had a disrupted service ever since Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 15/10/2013 19:01, J FLEETWOOD wrote: > > > So sorry you received this message. So sorry you received this message. I was hacked into, yet again, at 8.47am Monday morning, before I was even up & dressed I might add, from Poland. This was ascertained by BT Security. On their advice I have changed my password three times & done a Norton Full Security Scan, which showed no problems on my system thank goodness. I just hope that noone opened the message. I take such care when on line & refuse to use Links, which is often where the hacker makes his connection according to the BT Security Officer. My address book is now usable again. I did try to contact everyone yesterday but my messages were blocked I only use BT for my research etc. all personal mail I send through G Mail. Once again my apologies for any trouble this may have caused you & thank you for letting me know of the problem.
