    3. Samuel Hubbard and Ann Ashton were married November 24, 1808 in Ashby Folville, Leicestershire, England. I am looking for a record which may indicate who their parents were. How would I obtain this. It's possible that Samuel was the son of William Hubbard & Ann Charlesworth, but I need proof.

    3. Hi Venetia In 1881 it was at 12 Fosse Road Matron then Eliza BAILEY 50 born Claybrook 19 inmates, from 7 to 16 so not quite infants According to :- Whites 1863 Directory The Infant Orphan Asylum was established in January 1851 for the maintenance and education of poor female orphan children, belonging to the town or county of Leicester, who are admitted at the early age of six. and trained in such habits of virtue, industry, and usefulness as may best qualify them to become valuable domestic servants, or otherwise to fulfil the duties of the station in which providence may place them. It is chiefly indebted for its origin to the benevolence and untiring energy of Lady HAZLERIGG, of NoselyHall, who has been ably assisted in her charitable design by the Countess HOWE, by Mrs John TAYLOR, of Leicester, and many other ladies of the county; and it is gratifying to know that a large measure of success has been already vouchsafed to their labours. In 1854, a healthy site on the Fosse road was purchased, and a very simple but appropriate building of brick and stone was erected at a cost of £900, raised by subscription and the profits of two bazaars. There are now about 30 inmates, each of whom on leaving, is properly clothed, and placed in a respectable situation. 1. [LEI] TEAT or TEATE family, Stonesby 1700s onwards
    2. Sara Reid
    3. Hi I'm trying to break through a longstanding brick wall and wanted to investigate whether part of my husband's Lincolnshire family had come from across the border. Hi GGG Grandfather John TEAT (which is how he signed himself although he is recorded as TEATE and even TATE in some records) was born on 20 October 1760. He recorded this in his Book of Common Prayer which is still in the family. He notes a number of other events, births and deaths including those of his sister and her apparently illegitimate son in the prayer book. Unfortunately he doesn't note his place of birth, nor his sister and nephew's names. He doesn't mention any other siblings in his notes. He was a blacksmith by trade and settled in Ropsely, Lincs by the time of his marriage to Susanna NORTH in Great Ponton, Lincs in 1790 and later moved to Ancaster, Lincs. As well as John TEAT b1760's date of birth, which he recorded himself, we know that his sister died in July 1835 and her son in September 1837 'forty years of age ilegitmate son'. We don't know where or when, or their names (his children were called John, Thomas, Henery, Francis, Elizabeth and Susanna - Henery/Henry and Susanna are from the NORTH side). I had previously (i.e. before the person with the prayer book found us) we thought that he was the John TEAT b1760 in Baston, Lincs but now that we've seen his prayer book the baptism is a few months before his birth. I'm therefore looking into the possibility that he is the John TEATE, son of John and Alice, baptised in Stonesby on 26 Oct 1760 and that his sister was Frances TEATE daughter of John and Alice baptised in Stonesby on 7 March 1762. Frances' son John TEATE (no father) was baptised in Stonesby on 8 April 1798. There is a death record for a John Teat in Melton Mowbray in 1837. Before I look any further into this - and possibly waste a lot of time and money - I wondered whether anyone on the Leicestershire list could lay claim to this TEATE family or can find out whether the John born in Stonesby remains in Leicestershire after 1790. I was also wondering whether anyone was aware of any online resources that can help with research into 1700s - 1800s Leicestershire and Stonesby in particular. Many thanks Sara

    3. In Remembrance of my grandfather Thomas George YOELL and connected family members who gave their lives that we may be free Also all those family members, to numerous to mention here that served their Country ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres. There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain, As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain. Cemetery Rheinberg War Cemetery In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. 3. [Deep gloom] It now looks unlikely that Ruth Walker the school mistress of Frolesworth, is my long sought ancestor. Emma Walker, aged 13, who is shown living with her in the 1841 census, was baptised in April 1865 to Samuel and Ruth Walker.
