The campaign is for the originals but I strongly suspect that even if access is allowed there will be cut offs. It means that we'd still have to buy some full price certificates. -- Connie http://oursalmons.wordpress.com/

    3. Hi Guy As you will have seen I have signed it but have no faith whatsoever in it or any other petition I looked at the stats on petitions a short while back and confess I did not come up with your results, in fact I did not find one petition that affected policy As I said I wish it well but will be highly surprised if it hits its target Its likelihood of success will be known in days Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > I though that Nivard, but on further investigation the new petition site > is being taken more seriously with 20 out of 21 petitions being debated > in the house in I think it was 2012 but it might have been 2011. > Cheers > Guy

    3. No Rob, if it achieves 100,000 signatures it is considered for discussion by a back bench committee (of nobodys) But that is immaterial as its unlikely to get anywhere near 100,000 signatures I was under the impression the petition was for allowing access to the original birth, marriage & death registers, I did not see mention of the later GRO indexes Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 25/03/2014 21:56, Robert Burns wrote: > If it gets 100k it has to be discussed in Commitee and whilst I agree > every little helps especially as the passport service will not sell new > indexes to anyone and I now have to go to Manchester if I want to see > any post 2006 entries > > Rob

    3. Hi Rob I have done However, they appear to have changed the way these petitions are signed, it now requires a full address which I was **very** reluctant to give, however I have signed it I do not expect it to get anywhere and even if it receives the requisite 100,000 signatures, that only means they may consider it for discussion by a committee As I said I have yet to see one petition which had any effect on policy, I do not expect any better in this case Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 25/03/2014 20:41, Robert Burns wrote: > But if you dont try you dont get anywhere so will you sign it Nivard >

    3. Totally agree Rob, people posting to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter would help too, there are links on the petition page. It's all about getting people talking and the more voices out there the better chance there is of being heard. Just emailed my MP, he's pretty good and sometimes turns up at local community meetings so I'll bend his ear then if I can. Just in case anyone else considering following suit you can find contact details really easily here http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/ the link is on the http://anguline.co.uk/ohrn1.html page too. 3. FYI: Nobody has said anything about whether non-citizens (ie non-TAXpayers) could sign the petition. I didn't expect to be able to (I'm in the U.S.) but I gave it a shot. It asked me if I lived in the U.K. & I clicked No and couldn't sign it. Too bad. I've spent quite a bit of money with the GRO, but they would actually get more money from me if they offered a better deal. However, if the powers that be in the UK don't pay attention to their own taxpayers, they certainly won't care about the descendants of emigrants. Eileen Phelps (Dad born in Nottingham)
