    1. [LEI] Market Bosworth burials
    2. Sandra Lewis
    3. Hi, I'm seeking some general advice on records in Leicestershire. I've found NBI entries for my great grandparents in Market Bosworth in 1817 and 1827, and was wondering if there is further information to be found. E.g. as I know the date of death, it might be easier to find a will, if there was one. Where should I look? I'm hoping to find what became of their other children (I've only been able to trace my own line forward), are there any documents that would help me with that? Thanks Sandra

    3. Just an idea - are you sure that Karen CARTER married a Mr HAPPUCH? It occurs to me that her full name could have been Karenhappuch CARTER? Karenhappuch (or Keren-Happuch) is a christian name of biblical origin. She was the 3rd daughter of Job, I think. The name was fairly popular in 18th century. 3. I sent the following message this morning but as it hasn't appeared yet am resending it: My research in Leicestershire is with CARTERS, but I am struggling with them! I wondered if anyone might have the names Thomas HOLMER & Mary Carter, or a Mr GOLDING and Elizabeth Carter (both men supposedly marrying my Carter girls in the 1720-30s), in their tree. Or later, Mr HAPPUCK who married, I believe, Karen Carter probably in the 1790's. Any help at all, even if it only verifies the names, would be really useful. Carolyn

    1. [LEI] Parker family search
    2. I have been unable to correspond through rootsweb for several months (holidays etc.) and am wondering if anyone has found my husband's grandfather Frederick Wickes Parker (b: 1875, Leicester, m: Mary Eliza Smith in Melton Mowbray in 1900) in their genealogical records. I have been unable to trace where he is buried and am wondering if he may have immigrated. Also Frederick Wickes sister was Clara Elizabeth Parker (b:1872, m: George Worth and they had a son Thomas. I would love to receive information on this family also. Regards, Glenda

    1. [LEI] POOLE & HORNSBY from Market Harborough
    2. Brenda Jordan
    3. I am researching the POOLE family from Market Harborough. James POOLE married Ann HORNSBY, they had three children (that I know of), George, Frederick and Thomas. James was born about 1792 in Rutland, Ann was born about 1804, I'm not sure where. Thomas was born in 1837. Thomas and his wife Suzannah WHITE, emigrated to Australia with their children. George and Frederick were already in Australia when Thomas and Suzannah arrived, they apparently left families behind. Any help with this family would be wonderful. - Brenda, Victoria, Australia

    3. Hi all Can anyone verify any of this info for me please, and add any extra if there is some. 1841 Census no Arthur Spriggs 1851 Census There is an Arthur listed b abt 1846 ? location Leicestershire 1861 Census There is an Arthur listed b abt 1846 who I believe these are the details for Piece: RG9/2249 Place: Market Harborough -Leicestershire Enumeration District: 7 Civil Parish: Market Harborough Ecclesiastical Parish: Lubenham Folio: 123 Page: 26 Schedule: 134 Address: - Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born SPRIGGS William Head M M 83 Agricul Labourer Leicestershire - Lubenham SPRIGGS Mary Wife M F 76 Leicestershire - Lubenham SPRIGGS James Son U M 35 Agricul Labourer Leicestershire - Lubenham SPRIGGS Arthur Grnson U M 15 Agricul Labourer Leicestershire - Lubenham 1871 Census There is an Arthur listed b abt 1846 ? location Leicestershire and It list Royal Navy instead of County/Island 1881 census he does not appear. Information I have on Arthur Spriggs 1876 - 1960 Australia suggests that the above person may be this Arthur's father. I an entry of the centenary of the Cleve township in South Australia it reads " the first Spriggs' migrant, a convict guard to Irish prisoners, assigned to Oladdie Station an area in the NE of SA near the townships of Carrieton and Orroroo." This is the same general area that Arthur was born in 1876. The above information, if proven, would establish the link back to England from Australia. bob _____ I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. 3. Geraldine, Thanks for the info, he does not appear to be linked to my lot and if the John I originally mentioned has his age stated correctly on the MI then yours was born 2 years too late. Thanks anyway. -----Original Message----- From: Geraldine Bancroft [mailto:geraldine.bancroft@btopenworld.com] Sent: Monday, 15 October 2007 23:26 PM To: 'Peter HOLMES'; 'LEICESTERSHIRE-PLUS'; 'HOLMES list' Subject: RE: [LEI] John HOLMES died 21/11/1862 - Buried Leicestershire (England) I have HOLMES in Ibstock about this time. One is a John born c. 1849 who was 2 in 1851 census - I have lost him after that. He is on a side branch, not in my direct line. 3. Ian, Holgates, later Hall Gates, is between Warren Hill and Cropston Reservoir, and on the opposite side of Bradgate Park to the village of Newtown Linford. If you go to Google maps (www.maps.google.com) and put "Warren hill Newtown Linford Leicestershire" in the searchbox, you'll see a crossroads where you turn right from Warren Hill into Roecliffe Road. Move the map to the left with your cursor until you see Cropston Reservoir appear on the lower right side of the map, then click on 'satellite' and you'll see an aerial view of Hall Gates - a clump of trees bordering on Bradgate Park - in the middle of the picture. Behind Hall Gates and towards the top of the picture is a large wood with a rather suggestive shape! - Swithland Woods - and still at the bottom left of the picture, a corner of the reservoir. All a bit convoluted, but that woody bit in the middle is Hall Gates and was Holgates. Let me know if my directions are confusing and I'll start again! Jill (Cambridge, UK) > Can anyone shed any light on where Holgates is/was? TIA. Regards. Ian Phillpott
