I cant find any mention in my 1960s Kellys and wondered if anyone knows what it could be. lts not the Zion chapel which is on Erskine Street. l took some pictures of it (before it gets pulled down or falls down). Any information would be appreciated. Andy

    1. [LEI] Broadhurst - DNA Testing
    2. Arthur G Broadhurst
    3. DNA testing can be useful in determining whether descendants have a common ancestor. As an example of how this can be useful, many of the Broadhurst families today have a known common ancestor in Ashby de la Zouch, and there are other Broadhurst families whose origin is in England but whose connection, if any, is unknown. We have a small DNA project underway to help us get an answer to that question. There are three Broadhurst volunteers so far to have DNA testing to determine possible relationships in the Broadhurst (and variants) known lines. We have not been able to obtain a volunteer from a male descendant in the line of a particular William Broadhurst who married Elizabeth Townsend (in USA) and had numerous descendants in Ohio and Michigan and we still need a volunteer to be tested so that we can determine whether that William Broadhurst is the same William Broadhurst who was born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, England. The testing is very simple—it involves a swab from the inside of the cheek. There are numerous Broadhurst variants (Broadus, Bradhurst, etc.) whose relationships have not yet been determined but may be connected, and testing is necessary to determine whether and how those variants are related to a particular Broadhurst line. The point is that DNA testing can do more than years of research to help established the extent of interconnections. So we encourage more family historians to proceed with DNA testing. We might be surprised at what we discover. If more of us participated we might gain much information with less time and money that digging it out piece by piece. At least with DNA testing we might get some clues as to where to start. Arthur G Broadhurst Palm Coast, Florida http://www.broadhurst.us http://www.lulu.com/content/1225916

    3. Hi Doreen, Try the record office at Wigston. They have copies of many transcriptions of monumental inscriptions. The Women's Institute did an excellent job of capturing many of them across the country some years ago. Also, where private individuals have transcribed them at a time when they were in a better state, they may have lodged a copy with the record office. They are catalogued by parish - ask at the search room desk. The record office can also advise on the Parish Registers for Sharnford, depending on what time frame you're interested in. Good luck. He went to Canada bef. 1874 & died there in 1886. He worked as a stonemason. Trying to find out more about the following William HARRIS from the IGI ... Parents just listed as James Harris and Mary. William Harris bapt 27.02.1825 All Saints, Loughborough, Leicestershire. Can anyone tell me what this Mary's maiden name was? Or see William on further census? Just trying to rule him out if he's not our fellow. Thank you! Mary Canada

I'm hoping to find what became of their other children (I've only been able to trace my own line forward), are there any documents that would help me with that? --------------------------------------- Hi Sandra, You're in luck - Market Bosworth is one of the comparatively few Leicestershire parishes where the parish registers (as opposed to Bishops' transcripts) have been filmed by the LDS. You will find the film numbers in the Library Catalogue on the LDS website, www.familysearch.org and can then order the films at your local LDS family history centre. By reading through the registers and extrapolating all instances of your family surnames, you may well find baptisms, marriages & burials for the generations before and after your great-grandparents. Similarly, pre-1858 wills and indexes (calendars) have also been filmed by the LDS. To find the film numbers you need to search the Library Catalogue - a place search - "place = Leicestershire" - and scroll down the resulting list to find "Probates". Clicking on that link will lead you to the probates from the Archdeaconry of Leicester. You can order the index film first, to see whether or not either of them left a will. Best wishes, Blanche Charles Wellington New Zealand

If you strike oil, armed with the information from the will the best way of tracking children forward would, of course, be via the censuses. Good luck!
