Now that we are nearly one month into 2008, I hope the new year is going well for all listers. I recently became aware (by reading list postings) that there is something called the National Burial Index. I am wondering if anyone who has access could do a few look-ups for me, please. Maybe I will get lucky with a brick wall! My great grandmother, Mary Ann PADLEY (nee Tindall), died in Hugglescote/Coalville, Leicestershire on 21 Oct 1882. The death was registered 31 Oct 1882. I have the death certificate; but I want to know where she was buried. The Padleys were a poor family. I doubt there was money for a burial with any kind of monument. Still, she has to be buried somewhere. Mary Ann also had two daughters buried in the Leicestershire area within a few years of Mary Ann's death. They were: Phoebe PADLEY, age 4, died 24 Mar 1876 at Whiteleys, Hugglescote, Leicestershire. The death was registered 25 Mar 1876. Emma PADLEY, age 19, died 24 Mar 1884 at Chester's Row, Swannington, Leicestershire. The death was registered 24 Mar 1884. As with their mother, I doubt that there were funds for a burial with a monument for either of the daughters; yet I would like to know where these girls are buried. Hi Bruce We've been in touch before: in my SHE[A]VYN tree I have a collateral interest in the GOAD[S]BYs, with the 1763 Mkt Bosworth marriage of Rachel SHEVYN to Robert GOADBY (not my direct ancestors). Additionally, as you know, the name became important in the General Baptist history of the East Midlands, through Rev Joseph GOADBY. (Was he Robert's brother?) Anyway, in researching my NORTONs in Mkt Bosworth, I extrapolated all the GOADBY entries from the PRs, and Arthur Atkins GOADBY is certainly correct. She married John HOUGHTON c 1845 and they had a son called Tom. John was the son of Robert HOUGHTON and his wife Elizabeth. I know it is not much to go on but is all that I have. Hi Colin I cannot see a connection yet? But I will send you a 7 generation descendants report off list from John Cooper 1709 downwards. It does include several Coopers who married at Thornton PC between 1810 to 1830. It may help with your researches. Of note at generation 4 is Marianne Nuttall nee Cooper 1817 - 1908 who's obituary in the Burton Chronicle at the time states that she was a Governess for many years to the children of the famous English novelist Charles John Huffam Dickens!
