Hi Kerrie Try http://www.historicaldirectories.org Where you will find many references to 30 Upper Conduit Street in Leicester As you have posted it here I assume the photo has a Midlands connection? The nearest I can find of a WELLS with a Conduit Street connection is this one in 1881 (or do you mean the E WELLS was the photographer?) Name: Emily A. Wells Age: 11 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1870 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: William Mother's Name: Sarah Gender: Female Where born: St Marys, Leicestershire, England Civil Parish: Leicester St Margaret County/Island: Leicestershire Country: England Street address: 43 Conduit St Education: Employment status: View Image Occupation: Scholar Registration district: Leicester Sub-registration district: East Leicester ED, institution, or vessel: 9 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Emily A. Wells 11 Martin A.E. Wells 15 Sarah Wells 41 William Wells 42 There are different families at No 30 in 1871, 81 & 91 Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) PS when sending to different lists its best to send to each individually rather than cross posting which can cause problems > Hi All > > Sorry if some may get this message twice abut as I an not sure which side > of the family this photo comes from is why I have asked both lists. > > I have a photo of a lady looking a bit like a maid but at the bottom of > the photo it says E. Kerrie, Thought about searching censuses but there are quite a "few" WELLS in Leicester!! Then searched Historical Directories for Upper Conduit Street - first one I opened was for 1914 and guess what - Daniel WELLS lives at no 35 Berners Street, just around the corner from Upper Conduit Street - could he be related to your lady do you think?? He's listed as a "Canvasser". Bit of a long shot I know but may be worth further ferreting in the directories if you can work out rough date for photo. http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/c.asp?ZyActionD=ZyDocument& Client=Test+Web+Site&Index=Historical%20Directories&&Query=upper%20conduit%20street& File=E%3A%5CZYIMAGE%5CDATA%5CHISTDIR%5CTXT%5C00000000%5C00004DAK.txt&User=anonymous &Password=anonymous&SortMethod=f%3ADecade&MaximumDocuments=10&FuzzyDegree=0& ImageQuality=r80g5/r80g5/x150y150g5/i500&Display=hpfr&DefSeekPage=f& Back=ZyActionS&BackDesc=Results%20page&MaximumPages=1&ZyEntry=1&SeekPage=f&id=00004DAK.txt Upper Conduit Street is actually listed in that directory as Conduit Street Upper - but no WELLS family at number 30. There's a WELLS and YOUNG the Grocers at number 17 - we used to buy our groceries from WELLS the Grocers in the 1950's/1960's only by then they were in Evington Road - used to have a van that came round the streets - and you went out to the van - remember fresh liver (swimming in blood) was sold from bulk metal bins!! Any of this ringing any bells?? Good Luck!! Hi Terry, I have the register of Freemen of Leicester 1931 to 1985. but you don't give any date. There are several Bramleys but no Thomas. Happy hunting, Betty. p..s. I'm not sure but I don't think Anstey comes under the jurisdiction of Leicestershire.> From: leicestershire-plus-request@rootsweb.com> Subject: LEICESTERSHIRE-PLUS Digest, Vol 3, Issue 50> To: leicestershire-plus@rootsweb.com> Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2008 01:21:42 -0700> > > > IMPORTANT! Hi everyone, I am mainly researching the Daykin family from Ilkeston, but have a connection through a marriage to the Cleminsons (and spelling variations thereof) who lived in Loughborough. In fact the name is spelt differently every time you see it. If anyone has any connections to or knowledge of this family I would be delighted to hear about them. Someone told me that there was a department store of similar name in Loughborough until relatively recently but it is not a part of the country I know well at all, and I cannot find anything on the internet about this. Best regards Heather Chaplin Somerset

Thank you to all of you who offered me the help I needed to locate London Road, Stoneygate entries in the 1901 Census.? Jack, My HEATHERILLs were living at Gladwynne on London Road in the Stoneygate area in 1901 - see James HEATHERILL (age 66) and his children James (30), Elizabeth (38) and Jessie (35), and servants Elizabeth (17) and Martha (16) HILL. (Parish - Knighton St Mary Magdalene). PRO ref for the page is RG 13/3003. On the same page are families DAWBARN(?), WESTON, HADDON and OLIVER with assorted servants. Hope that helps. Having just returned to the site, after an absence of a few years, I would like to Repost My Interests in the hope that someone out there may be following similar lines. In Leicestershire, my interests are in the PROUDMAN family. Samuel PROUDMAN was born in 1804 in Carlton and died in 1890 in Market Bosworth Workhouse. He Married Mary ?, born in Rotherham in 1813 and died in Carlton in 1876. If anyone has anything on this family I would be delighted to hear from them. Also anything on the BAILEY family from South Kilworth would be of interest.
