    1. [LEI] St Mary's, Leicester Baptisms
    2. Jean Taylor
    3. Is there anyone on the list who has access to the baptisms of St. Mary's, Leicester? Due to ill health I am unable to get to the records office at Wigston in the foreseeable future and I am having a problem sorting out my "SCOTTON" family. I am initially looking for any baptisms for the children of Peter & Ann Scotton in the timeframe 1830-1850. After that it appears that at least one of their daughters had a number of illegitimate children, but most of them were born & died between censuses, making it difficult to establish which of the many burials of young children are hers or her siblings. The timeframe for these children is 1850-1875. So any baptisms between these dates whether to a single mother or couples would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any help that anyone is able to give me. Jean Taylor

    3. Hi Elna The only CHAPMAN baptism that I can find in Market Harborough between 1760 and 1780 is that of a boy with an unusual name 1771 August 9 Sheehberry, son of William & Ann Chapman so unusual, in fact, that the IGI appears to omit it altogether. Could this be your Benjamin by another name? Was Sarah BERRY, whom he married, perhaps a cousin? There seem to be no other children of any CHAPMAN baptised in MH. Could he have been born/baptised across the county boundary in Northants, say in Little Bowden, which is now part of MH (the county boundary was later moved). Very few Northants PRs are indexed by the LDS on the IGI. Otherwise, could Benjamin have been baptised in the Independent Chapel in MH rather than in the parish church? Some Independent records are on the IGI but not all, but there are copies in the Leicester & Rutland Record Office. >From where do you have the information that Benjamin was born in Market Harborough? Does this help at all? 3. Hello everyone, I am trying to find out what happened to my great Aunt, Rose B BURSNALL(nee ALFREY) who married John Edwin BURSNALL in 1891.( I have the marriage certificate) I found them (separately) in the 1901 census, in Melton Mowbray. Both were visitors in the homes of John's relatives, with no evidence of children belonging to them, although they had been married 10 years. I would welcome any suggestions as to how I could research this further, without buying lots of certificates on the off chance that I may find births of their children. Are there electoral rolls that I could search? Or directories? Or any other avenues? 3. Thanks Ann-Marie and all who answered A further question in 1897 would a couple who were say one Church of England and the other Catholic been able to marry in a Catholic Church? If the answer to this question is no, how long a period of time would the conversion have taken place for them to marry? Would this show on their marriage certificate? Is there anyone who would have the parish registers to see when my granfather converted if infact he converted just before he got married. My father was baptised and confirmed the day he married my mother in a Catholic Church.
