Hi Folks Ric had a small typo in his link. Here is the corrected link http://www.le.ac.uk/genetics/maj4/maj4.html Vern in Ontario
I had trouble accessing the site also, and was only able to via Google. None of my other options worked. So ~ copy amd paste the address in your Google browser, and see what happens. Very Interesting. What age was considered a minor? The legal age for girls to marry *with parental consent* was 12 and for boys *with parental consent* it was 14. Both girls and boys could marry without parental consent at 21. However, just because the certificate says one or both of them were of "full age" (ie 21 or over), it didn't mean they actually were - only that they said they were. They could have been anything from 16 to 106 :)) Your couple were probably between 18 and 20 but could have been younger.
Hi Susan I think anyone under 21 was called a minor and I think children as young as 12 could get married with their parents consent. While researching my ancestor George Webb. the following information was relayed to me: from Leicestershire Banking Company AGM 8th February 1854 "Resolved that a marble tablet to the memory of the late George Webb Esq (the first and twenty two years the faithful Manager of the Bank) be placed in a niche of the cloisters of the Leicester Cemetary." Thanks to George and Jack of this list, I now know that it is likely the Leicester Cemetery is the Welford Rd. Cemetery. There is no record of any George Webb being interred there in the 1850s. George has been very difficult to trace as he (and probably his father also) was in the military. I know that he died May 30 1852 at Dover, so perhaps that is where his grave is located. I'm in the process of trying to obtain an obituary for him. However, I'm not holding my breath on that! If there is SKS on this list who is going to the Leicestershire Record Office for their own research and they would not mind checking the Leicester papers for George's obit. I would be very grateful and will cover any costs.Thank you very much. Pat (Whitby, Ontario
Having been off list for some time am reposting interests for the following families Jeffcoate , Cooke. Does anyone have 1) Susannah (Jeffcoate) Cooke b 1870 nuneaton and William Edward Cooke c1868 Barrow on Soar in their family ? They had 3 children that I know of Louis Cecil 1893 , William John 1896 and Frank 1899. 2) Mary (Jeffcoate) Jones 1872 Nuneaton and Alfred Harry Jones . Married in Leicester 1895 .They had one son that I know of Lawrence Alexander Jones who was living with grandparents Samuel and Susannah Jeffcoate according to 1901 census. 3) Edwin Jeffcoate b 1882 Nuneaton and Elizabeth Jeffcoate b 1880 last known record 1901 Leicester census . Parents Samuel and Susannah. Edwin was possibley handicapped and therefore did not marry. Finally, are there still the following churches in Leicester- St Peters and St Saviours ? My mother was baptised at St Peters by a W Louis Cooke in 1918 and he was a clergy man at St Saviours in 1928. Trying to find out if he is in any way related to William Cooke. Many thanks

Hi List, Please is there anyone who can tell me what uniform my Gt.Grandfather John Buckingham, is wearing in the photo which I have attached. I have tried looking it up on the internet but have had no success...it looks like an army uniform of some sort. Between 1901 and 1914 when he died the family seemed to move around between Birmingham and Leicester, although this photo was taken in Liverpool. I hope someone can help, it would be very appreciated. Best wishes. Steve Compton (New Zealand)
Val, You may not have much success as Rootsweb deletes attachments I think. I certainly did not receive anything. You might have to find another way to seek assistance via the list such as putting the photo on a web site you run so that we can visit there, or seeking the names of some of the "uniform identifier" web sites on the net. Just like your country men(& women) will need it at Bledisloe cup time - good luck from Australia. Peter Holmes Western Australia. Trying to find info on David Spicer, born about 1915 - 1916. Was living in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada in 1940, but lost track after going to the UK in the 1950s. Presume he has since passed away but have no knowledge of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, whether alive or dead. Believe he also served in the RAF during the Second World War.
