    1. [LEI] Registering Birth
    2. David Robinson
    3. Hi Leicestershire One curious question. Earlier this year I ask what the notation M42 meant on the GRO records. I received the appropriate answer. I requested the birth certificate from the local registrar, I know the mother was unwed at the time of birth, It came back with a compliments slip explaining the wording is as recorded, and a name difference. What reason does " On the authority of the Registrar General mean on the certificate? Is it an adoption or what. Regards David Robinson Transcribing for Leicestershire FreeCEN & FreeBMD. 3. G'day Jeanette attachments don't get posted on the mailing list, which I think is why I your email reads: "This is what I'm looking for: Jeanette Brentnall". Since the probate reforms of the 1850s, Probate is handled at the National level. Copies of these Probate records (at £6 a piece) can be ordered through: Probate Registrar York House York Place Leeds Yorkshire LS1 2BA England Prior to the reforms of the 1850s, Probate was handled by the Church of England. For this you will need to know the Archdeaconry where the Will was probated. Most of these records have been microfilmed by the LDS. Most of the Leicestershire records will come under the Archdeaconry of Leicester in the Diocese of Lincoln. Here's what the LDS have on microfilm < http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails&subject=453780&subject_disp=England%2C+Leicester+%2D+Probate+records&columns=*,0,0 > Copies of these microfilms can be ordered into your local LDS Family History Library (I see you've a Bigpond email address - so the cost will be A$7.75 per film). 1. [LEI] WOODCOCK's of Hinckley
    2. Hi List I have some WOODCOCK's who died in Hinckley. Benjamin died in 1841 and Ann, his wife died in 1847. Benjamin was a bricklayer and sand merchant. He was a Yeoman of the town, whatever that means. Does anyone know where they might be buried? Many thanks Mike Woodcock Brisbane, Australia

    3. Mike, At that date I would expect them to be buried in the churchyard - i.e. the cemetery surrounding the parish church. I don't have access to the parish burial register to check - perhaps another list member could check for you. Although many churchyards became full during the latter part of the 19th Cent - especially in London - outside the metropolitan areas many churchyards were accepting burials until the end of the 19th Cent and some rural churchyards are still open. My g-grandfather who died in 1916 is buried in Hinckley Cemetery in Ashby Road but it wasn't opened until 1858. 3. Hello I have a John and Elizabeth WISEMAN having children in Bottesford between 1748 and 1764. I think that this John WISEMAN was the one buried in 07 Nov 1772 (no age given) in Bottesford. As for Elizabeth there is a burial of an Elizabeth WISEMAN on 06 Dec 1759 (no age given) but I don’t think that this is the wife unless John remarried to another Elizabeth very shortly afterwards to continue to have more children until 1764. This Elizabeth called be a child of John and Elizabeth WISEMAN who could have died very shortly after birth but there is no mention if she was an infant, age or parents names so perhaps this burial of Elizabeth was someone else. There is a burial of an Elizabeth WISEMAN a widow on 25 Jan 1793 age 59 in Bottesford but this could well be the wife that John WISEMAN married as a widow in Hose to an Elizabeth CROSS on 16 May 1770. Would anyone know if John WISEMAN married again to another Elizabeth very shortly after 1759? Would anyone know where Elizabeth WISEMAN the first wife was buried? Also, Does anyone know if their is a will index for Leicestershire? Any help will be very gratefully received. Jamie Neagle

    3. Hi Nivard, Thanks again, I had tried papers but no luck The family of John Rowland were with him and they seem to have gone backwards and forwards to England, wife was Jean Lydia nee Kirkwood born Scotland. Sons Rowland J. and Hugh W.D. found in 1911 census at school in Upton on Severn, both born Gibraltar, but I have found Rowland in births on 1904 in Wycombe Bucks which does make sense as this was where John R. C. went back to from Gibraltar. Hugh became a doctor and died 1939, son John Winslow Crook died 1934 at about age 21. Daughter Enid Margaret married 1938 and was granted probate of her fathers estate in 1940, she died 1996.
