Hi Gill There are no publicly available adoption records available since its inception in 1927 (in England & Wales) Only the adoptee of the adopting parents can apply for access and then have to follow a lengthy procedure including counseling before they are made available After 1975 access was relaxed somewhat for the adoptee This may help for more on the subject http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/adoption.htm?WT.lp=rg-8355 Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi List. hi listers Last month I had a very short visit to the Leicestershire & Rutland FHS research centre in Leicester and viewed Welford Rd Cemetery burials on their in-house computers. _Question 1_ I came across 3 ENSOR infant burials all in cemetery section cL, plot #1553 and wonder if anyone has access to records that could tell me the names of their parents. The 3 infants are as follows: Beatrice May ENSOR, age 3, buried 27 Oct 1892, of Stanley Street, Leicester St George. Burial #C34514 Reginald Arthur ENSOR, age 5 wks, buried 12 Nov 1892, of Stanley Street, Leicester St George. Burial # C34560 Margaret Emily ENSOR, age 23 days, buried 8 Dec 1898, of Cecil Road, Leicester. Burial # C42091 _Question 2_ I also came across what appears to be a mother and infant son both buried in section uH, plot # 539 as follows: Catherine ENSOR, age 25, buried 14 Aug 1851, of Wellington Street, Leicester St George. Burial # U185 David ENSOR, age 3 mos, buried 9 Oct 1851, of High Cross Street, Leicester St Martin. Burial # U267 Could anyone give me more details on the woman's husband (if any), and parents of the child? Thanx..................Bob Marttila in Hamilton, Ontario
Many thanks Nivard I'll take your advice about joining the National Library. Thanks also for the obit. Unfortunately it's not as full as it could have been. I'd been hoping it'd contain some reference to the Second World War along with his brother Claude, and sister-in-law, Suzanne. Suzanne was murdered in prison by the Gestapo in August 1944 (she's in Wikipedia). Claude's mistress (and second wife) Ruth Peters hid in Charles Spaak's wife-to-be's flat until the Liberation. My interest stems from my having recently learned that my step-father's first wife had been stranded in France in 1940 and knew Claude, Suzanne and Ruth. She had a role as a walk-on extra in the Red Orchestra spy ring and was also been arrested but survived. G'day everyone Does anyone have access to the on-line The Times archive please. I would like obtain a copy of the Obituary of CHARLES SPAAK which I understand to be in the 6th March 1975 edition. Many thanks David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia
You are most welcome You may find something else with some more varied searches , not everything OCR'd is perfectly indexed , plus variations of the name perhaps (papers are very good at getting the names wrong) I am sure you have it but found this on Suzanne http://neohumanism.org/s/su/suzanne_spaak.html An extremely brave woman by the sounds of it We cannot begin to understand what they went through and the bravery they showed Unfortunately many events and experiences of people who endured wars were not recorded anywhere so there may not be anything to find I can't recall if the NLA covers the Guardian newspaper as well as the Times but you can check I am sure , there are quite a few hits for the name but I have no idea if any are relevant to your research As daft as it sounds, unless you have already done so, its also worth checking your own Aussie papers on Trove, I have often found snippets recorded that do not even appear in English papers Good luck Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Many thanks Nivard > > I'll take your advice about joining the National Library. > > Thanks also for the obit. > > Unfortunately it's not as full as it could have been. Just to be pedantic, it is actually called The Register Office - with a "ter". I know almost everyone calls it a registry office, but it is one of my pet hates I'm afraid. Just like people saying geneology!! Hi, The Registry Office in Bowling Green Street [back of Town Hall] is where you would book your wedding, on the actual day Monday -Friday you enter and leave by the main Town Hall entrance, on a Saturday due to the volume of weddings you enter the Town Hall via the Queens entrance and leave via the Main entrance. You also have the choice of three wedding rooms according to the size of the wedding party. Hi Maureen The Leicestershire Records Office is in Wigston Magna http://www.leics.gov.uk/recordoffice They may be able to help if you have the Church , date and the PRs have been deposited I think someone said the other day there is a long waiting list for responses though For civil registration certificates you would need Leicestershire Registration Office address: Leicestershire Registration Office County Hall, Leicester Road, Glenfield Leicester LE3 8RN telephone: 0116-265 6565 Or you can use the GRO and order online but *without* the GRO index reference, requesting the certificate *if* the father is Daniel If it does not they will not charge , if it does they will issue the cert Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I am hoping to buy a copy of the marriage certificate between John Brewster and Harriet Beasley >which took place on 2nd October 1872 at St. Georges Church Leicester. However I want to confirm that >the father of John Brewster is Daniel.
