The FREARSON family - and variants - DNA Project is now up and running. Many FREARSON families came from Leicestershire and Derbyshire. Of the 20 or so surviving UK Frearson lines that need to be investigated, about half are from Leicestershire, which is also an important area for possibly related variants of the surname. Details of the various Frearson family groups are given at: http://johnphfrearson.host22.com/Frearson-One-Name-Study-Trees.html Volunteers are needed from all these Frearson lines, but please do contact the coordinator first so that unnecessary over-testing of the same family line is avoided. There may also be parts of some family lines where a male-discontinuity means that testing may be less uninformative. For those with the surname FREARSON - or variants such as FREASON, FREERSON, FRIERSON, or even less similar surnames such as FREAR or FREESTONE, this DNA project will hopefully assist in establishing any past links. If you are [or have contact with] a male with an applicable FREARSON or similar surname, now is an idea time to get involved; it is currently possible to participate at a discounted DNA project price for testing for the rest of this month. It could be an ideal Christmas gift for a family historian. Whilst all are welcome to participate direct at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Frearson you are encouraged to contact the coordinator first so that there is no unnecessary duplication of testing. Non direct-line males, and other family members who are not direct Frearson descendants, who may be unable to participate in the DNA testing itself, can help by donating a small amount to support the project, so that a subsidised or free DNA test kit to those with more limited budgets, but who may provide important links in the DNA knowledge base. They can also be updated on findings as the project continues. For information on the project, and to donate please see: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Frearson For further information on the project go to: http://johnphfrearson.host22.com/Frearson-DNA-PROJECT.html To be added to the Email Newsletter list - or to contact the coordinator - please use the Email provided. Anyone who would like to assist with the coordination, especially of variant lines, would be most welcome and should get in touch. Hi Wendy, I think the marriage was between John Mayes and Eliza Wales. FreeBMD (www.freebmd.org.uk) has it in the March qtr of 1852 (7a 297). The reason that I think it's correct is two-fold. Firstly, the 1871 census has their eldest child as being aged 19, so born around 1852. A marriage in that year is therefore quite plausible. Secondly, Family Search (www.familysearch.org) has a baptism of an Eliza Whales on 1st July 1832 in Birstall. Hi everyone, I have today accessed The Genealogist website and found some Leicester Wills & Admins - have found Year, Surname, Christian Name, Place and whether Will or Admin + a number. Can anyone advise me how to obtain copies of the above. Annette The Leicestershire Probate records have been microfilmed by the LDS. They are entirely separate from the PCC Probate records and can be ordered into your local LDS Library for A$7.75 a microfilm. < http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails&subject=453780&subject_disp=England%2C+Leicester+%2D+Probate+records&columns=*,0,0 > There's an LDS library in Lismore: Lismore Australia 3 Glen Court Lismore, New South Wales, Australia Phone: 61-2-6624-1317 They'll prbably be closing shortly for a month's Christmas - New Year break, but as the microfilms usually take about a month to arrive from Salt Lake City, it'll be worthwhile ordering before Christmas. I wonder if anyone is researching the family of John Thomas Johnson? In 1881 he was living at the Bulls Head in Shepshed aged 18, and by 1901 he was living at Fleckney Road, Kibworth. The family were connected to the Johnson and Barnes hosiery factory in Kibworth. It would be interesting to know if there are any living descendants....? thanks for any info Wendy from Nottingham
