I suspect that the parents may have been living together without being married and the officiating minister may have been unaware of this

Hello Again from New Zealand I would be grateful if someone is able to sort out a problem of two William ROYCEs both born, according to the censuses in Sewstern (I think but can't check as I don't have access to Ancestry) and both registered in the June Q 1849 as below. Births Jun 1849 (>99%) ________________________________ Royce William Oakham 15 755 Royce William Melton Mowbray 15 232 I believe one is the son of Joseph ROYCE and Susannah BURROUGHS, both born in Sewstern and living there in 1851. The other being the son of Mark ROYCE and Elizabeth SELBY, he of Buckminster and she of Sewstern and living in Sewstern in 1851 also. Sewstern and Buckminster are both in the Melton Reg Dist so who is whose son? Further one of the boys married Emma CUTTS in the Chesterfield Reg Dist in the Mar Q 1872; again, which one? Any help gratefully received. I am going to try the Derby list too. As they are only small twigs from my wife's CHATTERLEY family tree, her grandmother was a ROYCE, I am not willing to purchase the certificates!! I would need to win "Lotto" to buy all the certificates to clear my twiggy brick walls!! Mike [email protected]
Dear List Members, Could someone one be christened with the father's surname when their parents weren't married yet? Please, this is my dilemma. John Wills & Ann Hill appeared to have been married 17 Feb 1824 in Saint Phillips, Birmingham, Warwick, England. Ann was born calculated 1802 in Kirkby Mallory, Leicestershire, according to the 1851 census (residence: Edgbaston, Warwick, England; Source information: HO107/2049, Registration district: Kings Norton, Sub-registration district: Edgbaston, ED: 2e, Folio: 192, Page: 10, Household schedule number: 38) I couldn't find Ann Hill's christening on familysearch, but I did find a Sarah Wills, chr. 28 Dec 1823 in Kirkby Mallory, Leicester, parents: John & Ann Wills. According the New York passenger list (arrival date: 16 Sep 1851, ship: Jersey) they had a daughter Sarah Wills, born calculated 1823 (but she was not with them on the 1841 or 1851 censuses). (The rest of the children were christened in St. Phillips, Birmingham.) If this is indeed their daughter she would have been christened 1 month 20 days before they were married, but I would think she would have the mother's name for a surname. Could the parents have gotten married two different times? Hopefully the answer lies in the Kirkby Mallory Bishop's Transcript. Thank you, Celia ____________________________________________________________ 53 Year Old Mom Looks 33 The Stunning Results of Her Wrinkle Trick Has Botox Doctors Worried http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/4eff85642deac713eb2st02vuc
Hi, The IGI record in Family Search (hopefully correct, but not always!) shows the following : William Royce married Emma Cutts on 24th March 1872 in Bolsover, Derbys. His father shown as Joseph Royce. Hope that helps. I have an iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and I use all of these: iFamily and MacFamilyTree and Reunion 9. They all have their charms, but if I had to choose only one it would be the MacFamily Tree for the brilliant three dimensional graphics it produces! Reunion 9 is a very conservatively presented system which is easy to use. Good luck. Jeanette
Hi Jeanette Not sure what post you are replying to as you haven't included a part of it Thought I would mention that the latest FTM 2012 for Mac is due for release on the 11th January If anyone wants price etc let me know Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I have an iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and I use all of these: iFamily and MacFamilyTree and Reunion 9. > > They all have their charms, but if I had to choose only one it would be the MacFamily Tree for the > brilliant three dimensional graphics it produces! > Reunion 9 is a very conservatively presented system which is easy to use. > > Good luck. > > > Jeanette

Hi Terry, According to Family Search (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M7H7-MQK), he appears to be in Colchester in 1861. I can't find the record on Ancestry but if someone can check Find My Past, it may turn up there. I have ROYSE/ROYCE from the Castleton area in Derbyshire. Have found both spellings but mostly with an 's'. They married into our SLACK family. Do any of yours originate from Castleton? Hi Judy I use familysearch (both sites) virtually every day and have not seen a different home page for a few weeks since they introduced the latest one with the search boxes under the names But they do have a history of changes being added without warning, perhaps the one you saw was a trial and may be in the pipeline to be rolled out at some point I can't see a mention of it anywhere even on the fs blogs but thats not to say its not going to happen :-) Since its inception it has got better over time and no doubt will continue to do so Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) Hi Lin, The page I was talking about was the newest search page (3rd version of the search page) on New Family Seach, we all had the white page then it was changed to another white one with various options below the search boxes. For some reason only some people had the latest 3rd version which was dark grey with photos on it, it seemed to be a worldwide searchpage as it listed the 3 latest worldwide databases added to the site aongst other things. Presumably which search page you got depended on which browser and operating was being used. However saying all this the super duper grey page has disappeared and I seem to have gone back to the second version which is the one Nivard has given you the link for. I think the databases have stayed the same throughout. Judy
