    1. Lucy Jane LEMMON, Chichester or Arundel?
    2. Rici Peterson & Gary Bell
    3. Hi all you Lehmans, Lemons, & Lemmons. I'm trying to solve a little riddle concerning my g-g-grandmother, Lucy Jane LEMON (or LEMMON). She married my g-g-grandfather, Thomas SCARTERFIELD (or SCARDEFIELD) in 1832. Thomas was born in 1806 in Pagham. They were married by banns and her father and place of birth are not listed in the marriage entry in the register. In the censuses from 1851 to 1881 she is shown as being about 6 years younger than Thomas and having been born in Chichester. Yet I can find no reference to such a birth in the parish registers. I do find a Lucy Lemon, born to William LEMON and Jane CHARMAN, in the Arundel parish register. The date of baptism is July 5, 1807. This Lucy has several sibs, born between 1798 and 1811. The youngest, Henry, is listed in the IGI twice as being baptised in both Arundel and Chichester. I can think of two possible explanations: (1) Lucy lied (or was uncertain) about her age in the censuses and thought she was from Chichester because the family moved there when she was only 4; or (2) She's not in the registers. Does anyone out there have any information that would match this Lucy Jane.
